Morrowind really is one you either love or hate. The depth of the gameworld comes from (1)the history of the land (Which is found mostly in books in the game, so if you arent a reader, too bad <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />) (2)the detail of the graphics (From the models to the skins, everything fits), (3)and the world itself (Its sometimes just a blast to stop and look at the view).
The NPC's definatly lack (Cardboard cuttout) and the plot is so.....amorphous(?)....its hard to get involved in.
But if you can get past that and just play for the enjoyment of being part of the world (And trust me, invest that effort and it will be repaid) its like nothing else around. I have the advantage of having been familiar with the world of Tamriel since volume one, so I know a lot of the histories and cultures that makes the game atmospheric.
I really love Morrowind. I would not say its the best RPG I have ever played. There are many I love more. But not many I will play for as long.
@ Death: Why do you hate Bethesda?
Mandrake:
Do you know
this site? It has awesome NPC/PC heads with lesser pollycount than the ones made by betseda.
My new model on left (422 polys), Bethesda's original head on right (502 polys).
I am a reader, yet Morrowind was INCREDIBLY borring. By doing a somewhat completely free game, you limit it. Sometimes I was lost in the game yet I didn't even want to continue. The combat was horrible. Especially when comparing to Daggerfall (Elder Scrolls 1). The graphics were atrocious with it's eye-watering NPCs and crude animations. The interface is as bad as the NWN's one. The only good thing I can say about Morrowind is that the sky was beautiful.
I dislike Betseda for many reasons: those gready b@stards, after making Morrowind, made 2 expantions most of which were ideas practically stolen from mod-community! I remember, after MW came out, the werewolf fan-made mod. Bloodmoon's werewolves look EXACTLY like those from the mod...
Also Betseda do not support games it doesn't develop: Pirates of the Caribbean, which was made by Akella and published by Betseda, did not even have a forum! Sea Dogs (the game before PotC) had a small forum without a moderator.
Pirates of the Caribbean could've been a great game if not Disney and Betseda.
