Last night I finally finished D2: Flame of Vengeance and with lots of interesting quests, characters and hilarious dialogues I can easily say it was one of the best RPG experience I have had in the last couple of years. I even loved this expansion more than the original game.
I must admit I didn't expect such a quality from an expansion. Quests' intertwine structure deserves a praise. Quests are so interesting that this time I did the quests for my curiosity to the storyline behind them, not just for gaining some exp. Dialogues are sometimes so hilarious that I felt myself in a Terry Pratchett book. Also with the new lighting system, graphics looks more brilliant, colourful and breathtaking without any performance hit. On the contrary performance of the game significantly increased according to D2:ED. Also changing from the old ridiculous leveling system to a more reasonable one was really a good move.
Whan I first learned that there is respawning of the monsters in expansion, I was kind of disappointed. But when I started the game I saw this was not the case. Respawning parts really suit with the general storyline and it's not annoying like Sacred 2 or such games.
So many people may complain about the zeppelin escort part of the game, but I loved it anyway. It's so stressful and at the same time exciting, trying to reach the keep with all these towers and such.
Only downside is that: end boss is so easy. I easily defeat Ygerna with some special moves. I remember the last fight of D2:ED. It was damn so difficult. Quite narrow room with more than ten soldiers, mages and such. And this one, peace of cake.
Thanks Larian crew and keep up the good work. I have even bought two copies: One Flames Of Vengeance digital copy and second Dragon Knight Saga boxed version to support Larian. Because more sales means more chance to see a Divinity 3 in the future.
Last: My dream Divinity 3 formula:
Quest structure like D2:Flame of Vengeance, free roaming, freedom and object interaction like Divine Divinity. And last one (although I know that chances are so low) a returning to the original isometric camera system. Maybe Diablo 3 will bring back the popularity of isometric camera back and we'll see an isometric Divinity 3, who knows?
