This is either a bug, or really, really funny. A few days ago I opened a thread where I bemoaned the fact that I had accidentally sold off my hoarded body parts. A number of kind people reassured me that I would get lots of better body parts later on, and that I shouldn't worry (thanks again, y'all!). Now I have learned that I did not in fact "accidentally sell" anything - my body parts were nicked by that shifty merchant Locke at the inn in Broken Valley village. On two separate occasions during the last hour I have visited Locke and sold off a few pieces of well-gotten loot. On both occasions those body parts that I had at that time collected were gone from my inventory when I had concluded the trade. I had not sold or otherwise disposed of them; they were simply gone. In the latest instance I actually checked the inventory right before I closed the trade window. At first I thought that this must be some kind of bug. But now I'm beginning to suspect that the truth is of a much more sinister nature. This fellow Locke does have a weird manner, and a decided "Igor" lilt to his voice. It would totally fit the tone of the game if my missing body parts are neatly stashed in Locke's conspicuously unaccessible magic locker right outside the inn. If this is true, it would be SO worth it! I'll test my theory by trading with another merchant the next time I do business.

That sounds like a bug.
At least in D2:ED if you confront the soldier Locke wants you to get money from, and then tell him you believe his story, he will tell you the password for Locke's cart. You can then confront Locke, but nothing comes of it other than him raising his prices. Alternately, you can mindread the cart to get the password.

Damn. I guess this means I can't shop at Locke's until I find a way to stash my corpse collection elsewhere.

Talk to the necromancer (not sure if you need to go into the creature creation screen) to get the parts you have added to his list, and sell any parts remaining in your inventory (they are duplicates). I kept a list of my best parts handy, so I could sell any lesser ones before talking to the necromancer, to help keep the list from getting too cluttered.

It's an old bug from ED: items sometimes disappear from inventory.

Well, that sucks. Especially in this genre.
I mean, think about it. Scene: The iconic volcano, some few yards away from the crater. Frantic sounds of pockets being turned inside out. "I swear, I had it only just now. Man, Big G is gonna kill me!!!"

This happened to me, as well (it was fine in D2:ED). I found a couple sets of legs, around level 8, but when I got the creature on level 10, they were missing. The next creature part I found I saved and visited the blacksmith; the part was listed in the trade window, but no longer in my inventory after I exited.
I guess this means I can not sell crappy creature parts unless I want to sell all the parts I have at the time. So far I've only found 3 creature parts, so I guess a trip to a merchant or necromancer whenever I find parts wouldn't be terribly inconvenient, as opposed to waiting until I need to sell off stuff, etc.

Are you sure the parts weren't added to the Necromancer's inventory? I had this glitch (in DKS), and I thought I'd lost the parts, but when I went to Naberius, he had the parts I'd "lost." I'm not sure exactly what "removed" them from my inventory, but whatever it did counted as turning them in.

I didn't talk to the necromancer again after our first meeting, until level 10 when I got the crystal skull (and the only parts available then were the default versions). I didn't check if the third piece got added to the necromancer's list after it disappeared from my inventory (I just reloaded). I guess it is possible the first two pieces I found were the same and worse than the default version the necromancer has? I'll check again the next piece I find (I think I may have deleted the saves with the third piece, clearing out room to be ready for my next play session, because of the stupid 20 save limit).

I never met any possible "bug" with the body parts. To be "sure" I don't add a body part I do not wish to use by the Necromancer Naberius I write down the current bodyparts my Creature has and compare this with a body part I find. If I don't like it, I sell it (yes, I always CAN sell "crappy" body parts!!), otherwise I go to Naberius to make my Creature stronger ... OR I write down where I found the bodypart (chest, loot) and leave it for later on that place ! (I do this with many items/loot to have more control over my Inventory space)

I just checked with a new body part, and after it disappeared from my inventory exiting the trade window, it did indeed show up when working on the creature with the necromancer. The first time I worked on the creature I didn't notice the arrows by the legs, but the two sets I found earlier were there, as well.

O, so it's no reason for "panic" when a bodypart disappear? I have discovered it yesterday too: I founded Arms, but they disappeared after going to a vendor! I've not going to Naberius (forgot it to do) after that because I was too bussy with taking all the last loot in Broken Valley etc ... and prepare myself (Jurdenson) to face Laiken & Razakel
