hey!

i bought the game six(?) months ago, but i left it to rot or so to speak in our apartment cuz i have to go home and i didn't have any pc at home. now that i'm in our apartment i tried installing it but it just won't install, minimum or max installation.

whenever i try installing, the installation process just stopped or won't start it just stays on 0%, and if i exit the installation i get this message saying:" can not open d:\divine divinity\run\unrar.log" what's wrong?

pls help.

is this from the disk, or did you copy to another drive?

Raze,

i've read the manual. but is it possible to manually install the game even without getting 1% installation? cuz all i'm getting is 0% installation. it just stops at 0%.

Yes, you can use the manual install procedure if for any reason the game will not successfully install otherwise. Hanging at 1% just happens to be one of the more common problems.

There was a link to download it in the manual install post (CDV just changed the name, I should have added a note to that effect when I quoted their instructions); Eng-divdiv_Win98ME.reg (right click, and select Save As). This also works fine under Windows XP. The registry file consists of the following;

Quote
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CDV Software Entertainment AG\Divine Divinity]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CDV Software Entertainment AG\Divine Divinity\English]
"target folder"="C:\\Programme\\Divine Divinity"
"group folder"="C:\\WINDOWS\\Startmenü\\Programme\\Divine Divinity"
"language"="English"
"version"="1.0"

If you have installed the game to a folder different than listed, for example "E:\Games\Divine Divinity", you will need to open the registry file in a text editor, and change the target folder to something like;

"target folder"="E:\\Games\\Divine Divinity"

Did you have any errors extracting any of the rar files? Maybe you moved or extracted some files into the wrong folder? (an easy enough mistake to make) Even without the registry file, the game should still load (though the patch would not be able to find the install folder). Try running the configuration program and switching to Software or DirectDraw mode. Perhaps try the verification method mentioned in the install post.

I had some problems as well, but I've been able to solve them.

My installation stopped at %, so I manually installed the game and did everything that was explained above my post.

However, the game crashed back to desktop after loading about one third. I looked into the error.log and it said it couldn't open the 'objects-something' file in the static-map.

Here's what I did. I checked the static-map, and saw that all files were set to read-only, since I copied them directly from the cd. So now I only had to uncheck read-only, and BING!! The game works <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hope it helps some of you people too!

Thanks for the clarification on the procedure, I've added it to the manual install post.
