Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) Technical Problems Patch confusion

I bought Divine Divinity a few days on GOG. I had expected the most recent version of the game, but in the right hand corner of the in-game setup screen it reads V1.005A.
Some thread in this forum mentions 1.34 as the most recent version, so I downloaded that. It doesn't want to install, though:
'No installation of Divine Divinity was found.
You have to install Divine Divinity version first before installing Divine Divinity - English patch V1.0.'
Obviously I had the game installed, it was in C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Divine Divinity, I've tried changing that to C:\Program Files\Divine Divinity (leaving out the GOG bit), to see if that would help, but no luck.

A couple of things are confusing me here:
Why would GOG not have the most recent version of the game?
Why does the patch I downloaded call itself English Patch V1.0?
Some thread on this forum mentions a version 1.0034?

I think you can understand that all these different numbers are confusing me. I'm having fun with the game, and the version I have is probably okay anyway, so no problem, but I thought I'd still drop my questions here.

You have the most recent version. The latest disk version is 1.0034A, which people often abbreviate to 1.34 (ie drop the leading zeros); similarly the download version number is often just written as 1.5. There were a couple hotfixes for the disk version of DD (original English release was 1.0029A), with the 1.34 patch being the first official patch that went through the publisher. Apparently they went with 1.0 because it was the first patch, rather than adopt the game's version number.

I hadn't thought of different numbers between CD's and download versions, but yeah, I thought indeed it was probably the numbering system that confused me. Good to know for sure, though. Thanks for your reply!
