Yes, mouse drivers can cause conflicts with other programs (ie Logitech's MouseWare drivers in Win98 would cause Windows Freecell to crash, as well as a couple other games). It isn't terribly common, though, or I would be able to think of a more recent example (I'm sure a Google search wouldn't turn up empty). Specific USB ports can also cause problems (ie boot problems if certain/any USB peripherals are plugged in, or power problems, etc), but I don't know about causing crashes in particular programs.
Have you checked if there are any updated drivers for your mouse?
Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?
