So this is the second time I've played all of Divinity II through from the start. The first time was on the disc-based game, summer 2010, and although Larian was very kind to fix a couple of game-breaking bugs in the Orobas Fjords by e-mail, eventually a game-killer in the Hall of Echoes prevented me from finishing.
So I've got the Steam version of DKS now and I finally started all over last week. Knowing what to do, it's been faster -- but I think I just got screwed over again? It's always ORobas Fjords...
I came in, got the Red Ore quest from Crabbe. Worked my way to the mine, completed the mine, killed Alutiiq.
Only... no body drops from Alutiiq.
As I progress through the Fjords I find that he's a Bounty target (no mask) and that he had the key I need in order to complete my Enchanter Platform (Wesson) quest. I've been back down to the mine where I killed him a half-dozen times. There is *nothing* there to loot. Did I render myself out of luck with my quests by doing (a non-linear game) them in the wrong order? Is it possible Alutiiq's bag just spawned inside a wall or something? I can live without completing the Bounty quests if I have to but I'll be pretty annoyed if I can't max out my Battle Tower.
(And at this point, the only save I could load where I could kill Alutiiq again would be the one from right before I fought Laiken / Razakel. Ugh.)

AFAIK I believe this is inadvertently designed this way. The quest item you need is for the 2nd level platform upgrade, correct? The guide at Game Pressure mentions this and informs you to be mindful of this before attempting the quest.

No, this should not happen. Please send an email to support@larian.com. Reference this thread and add your save-game as well: with a little bit of luck we'll be able to fix the problem.
I am in blood Stepp'd in so far, that, should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o'er.

So, Macbeth you're saying that quest items are always dropped regardless of whether you have the quest? Hmm... I along with a few other (people who made game guides) apparently assume it was like most games where you are simply punished because you didn't receive the quest first. If this is indeed a bug, there may be a couple more to report.
Note: I haven't tried the latest patches so this maybe something you guys fixed already.

So, Macbeth you're saying that quest items are always dropped regardless of whether you have the quest? Yes, that is the intention. The game is non-linear, so we don't want people to miss out on stuff by first having to accept quests. Unfortunately there seems to have been a hiccup in this case, so do please send that mail to support so the problem can be addressed. Thank you!

Ah, cheers. I actually feel much better knowing it's a bug and not a feature! I'll shoot an email over now, thanks!

Usually you guys are really awesome about quick replies to Support e-mails (the first time I sent a save game your way, last July, I had it back and repaired in under 12 hours)... is this a thing that can happen? I sent it Sunday night and I really want to get playing again, but I'm on hold until I get back an answer. And I'm on hold right before a fight I always hated*, so I need to know so I don't do it twice. (*The demon in the Well of High Hall. I'm not so good at dragon fights.)

Sorry about that, but our support guys are also developers and we're all frightfully busy. Obviously they still follow up on support whenever they find the time, but it may take a bit longer than before. Hopefully they'll get round to your problem soon!

Well, I used my contacts - guy owed me some favours - and got your mail to the top of the pile. There should be a fixed save game in your mail as we speak!

It worked, you're a rockstar. Appeared overnight to me (US East coast time), so I look forward to getting to load up the game again tonight!
