Hi,

As I reported in a recent post, I experience stuttering in DKS/FOV. I have done a little bit of testing to understand the issue better and figure out a way to reliably reproduce it. Not sure it matters, but I have now finished DKS, and am at the very beginning of FOV. I saved the game in the battle tower hall, and am testing in that area exclusively.

It turns out that when I just start the game and load, there is initially no stuttering, everything works smoothly. However, after running around the hall for a couple of minutes (could be anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes), stuttering appears and no matter what I do next, it continues to occur. If I reload the game after stuttering started to happen, then, again, initially there is no stuttering, but it starts to happen pretty fast (faster than after the first load).

This shows that my system can actually handle the game just fine, and the problem is caused by a kind of memory/resource leak.

EDIT: my system is core2duo 2.6 GHz, 6 GB of DDR2 870 MHz RAM, Win7 x64 (fresh install), overclocked HD3850 with 256 MB, all newest drivers, playing at 1600x1200.

EDIT 2: it turns out alt-tabing can solve the stuttering problem for a while. Also, I now have suspicion that the problem is caused by the videocard driver downclocking itself due to overheating.

EDIT 3: confirmed that the videocard was downclocking itself due to overheating. Solved by reducing Overdrive settings.

If you have overheating issues, you may try to enable Use VSync in Options > Graphics > Advanced Options.

With VSync activated, you may also try to force Direct3D triple-buffering using an utility like RadeonPro. Note that the triple-buffering option available in CCC only concerns OpenGL.

1. Try to reset the overclock
2. Play with custom settings in Divnity_dir\data\config.xml (in latest patch it's in c:\Users\%%USERNAME\AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Profile\)
