My game crashes right after the cutscenes after beating Ygerna's memory.
It goes to black after the cutscenes (Damion attacking the Zepplins) are finished, the loading icon shows in the bottom right of the screen, and then it I get a windows message to shut it down because it crashed.

This has happened three times in a row, including after a system restart.
I can't continue my game.

Please help!

Thanks.

Have you installed the patch? (DKS / FoV)

25/ Crash after ending video of ED

Problem
The game crashes after the ending video of Ego Draconis

Solution
The problem seems to be solved by installing the AC3filter audio codec. ( http://ac3filter.net )

Thanks for teh replay.
I'm running on Steam and the patch is installed.
I just installed AC3filter and restarted but no change.
Same crash again twice on the loading screen after the cutscene.

The error is as follows (I7m running a Japanese OS. I hope the codes alone will help)

Can you start a new character at the beginning of FoV, or do you get the same crash as continuing from the D2:ED section of DKS?

Try emailing support@larian.com, with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this post.

Did you check Steam's forums, as well?

You could try disabling videos, and see if that would allow you to get past that point, then save the game and re-enable them. That may not help, since the crash is during the loading screen after the cutscene, but may be worth a shot.

24/ Crash on each video or movie scene

Problem
The game crashes when a movie or video is played.

Solution
Our game uses WMV which is natively supported by Windows, but some codecs may break this support.

There may be something wrong with your video or with your audio codecs. Try installing the AC3 Audio Filter codecs from the following URL:

http://ac3filter.net/projects/ac3filter/releases

You may also try to uninstall your video codecs and re-install the Microsoft codecs.

If all else fails, disable videos. If you want to disable videos, look for this XML file:

C:\Program Files\[Installation Folder]\data\globalswitches.xml

Right-click and choose edit, or open it in Notepad or another text editor. Change the PlayVideo option to 0:

PlayVideo="0"

Save and exit, and start the game to verify.

Yes, I can start a new character in FoV. No problem.
video isn't the problem.

Was the cutscene I saw the end of the game? Was the loading screen supposed to take me to the beginning of FoV?

If so, all I want to do is continue with my character.
Should I email support or is there another way I can move on with my character from D2:ED?

Yes that cutscene was the end of the D2:ED section of the game, which should then move right into FoV. I'm not sure why you would have a problem at that loading screen with an existing character but not when starting a new one.

I don't know if anyone has had any problems with their inventory during that transition, but you could try selling or destroying any unnecessary loot in your character's backpack or battle tower chest (at least in D2:ED you could return to the battle tower from the dragon sections of the Hall of Echoes). Other games have had problems transferring large inventories between acts, etc; I have not seen this reported for DKS (it is one difference between an existing character and new one, though), so don't overwrite any of your current end-game saves if you try this.

You could try lowering the game resolution and all the graphics options, and see if that makes a difference with the loading screen before FoV.

Do you have access to another computer you could try the game on?

I'm not sure what else to suggest, other than emailing Larian (perhaps including a save before finishing off the last opponent in Ygerna's memory).

In English versions of Windows, in XP the saves are in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\ %username% \Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Savegames

or in Vista / Win 7

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders (XP, Vista, Win 7).

Thanks, I'll try your suggestions. Hopefully I can continue.
If something works I'll post here for others reference.

Otherwise I'll try emailing Larian and see if that will help.

I have a quite similar problem on my end.

At first, the game crashed without any dumps. At that point I found this topic and tried everything listed.

FoV ran by itself, by the way.

I have installed the latest AC3filter codecs, I've turned the Desktop themes etc stuff off in compatibility, I have UAC disabled. Tried making an empty file and naming it the endgame video, but that failed as well. As a last ditch, I disabled all the vids altogether and changed the resolution to 1440x900, my monitor's native resolution. That, for some reason, helped, and I managed to start FoV.

So, I guess you dismissed the video being the problem (just like I almost did), but try turning them off in the master file, anyway.

You can simply skip the cutscene before it ends. It is what I did, no problem.

Same problem here. Tried pretty much everything reasonable... But the game still freezes after final cutscene/video (which plays just fine). It looks like if the game isn't able to load FoV.
