Hello!

I just received my hard copy of the game, installed it , activated it and installed patch2.
The game runs fine without the disc in the drive but I just read the manual and it states that the disc must be in the drive... what is true?
I would really prefer for the disc to be stored rather than having it in my drive.... is there a check later in the game (though I doubt it) or I can just put it back in it's box?
thanks!

At least in D2:ED there were checks later, and the copy protection system could trigger counter measures in the game if the DVD was not detected, when playing the retail version (error code 42 when trying to save, very tough Rich Bandits early in the game, thousands of skill points given when reaching level 15, loosing the ability to jump, etc).

are they physical media checks or checks to see if the game is tampered with? it would be very misleading for a legit owner to activate his game and run into problems later on... I mean the game does not complain about a disc or anything...
I am not ranting btw smile

I think there was a physical check for the DVD. There should be a disk icon shown onscreen if the game can not detect the disk, but I agree the game should give a clear warning or error message, especially before causing problems that can look like bugs.

You can email support@larian.com to check this, if nobody in the forum knows if DKS uses the same system.

I have some games that, after being installed, just work without the DVD. I would say if it works without the DVD, well, um, it works without the DVD. It sounds like you answered your own question.

Back in the days of Commodore 64 I used to dream about games like Divinity 2.

DKS works fine without the DVD (most games do that require one-time internet activation in my experience).
Read this thread, then found the rewards in the starting city crap compared to the demo and feared the worst, but I guess that was the patches rebalancing at work frown.
