The only way to save the boy is too sacrifice yourself ain't it?
the life is sucked outta you, but is there a way to come back normal?

I didnt want to lose the stat points, so I just let the kid die (ack!). That translates into lost xp and the knight whos on the road to Verdistis will not teach you a level of Bless (and any XP points that may have came from that) in hindsight, I wish I would have saved the boy... as a mage my mana never goes below half and I have just enough strength to wear my armor and the rest is agility (and occasionally int/con) so I have some points to spare. I might want to use a bless5 for more agility vs. the big mobs (bless 5 is 15 time unit long) and I've yet to have a battle vs. 1-5 mobs last longer than 10-15 sec.

There is a shrine of good and evil south of the dwarven village which will (randomly, so save first) add or subtract 5 points from one of your primary stats, and a couple objects which can raise you up a level. This more than compensates for a random number (often 3) of lost stat points from saving the boy.

Just think of it as translating the three stat points back into experience. You get a bonus skill and reputation out of it as well!
