I have the GOG version of the game w/ 1600x900 resolution enabled. It looks beautiful! I have Win 7 64. I also am running the font enlargement patch , and I use the RunFirst utility to get rid of the sound issues. No problems - it runs perfectly. The thing is , it won't play the opening cutscene, and if I manually click to play it from the main menu, it runs it for a little bit, then starts to skip and dies. So I wonder what the problem might be? I have seen the opening scene before, so no big deal. But I wonder about whether there are more cutscenes in the game, and if I will miss them. Any help? Thanks

There are more cutscenes in the game (one after the blessing ceremony late in the game and one at the end of the game... I think the rest mostly use the game engine). I don't recall this problem being reported before, though, so I don't know if the later videos are also likely to be effected.

At least in the disk version there is a configuration file edit to skip the intro videos (see here), but that shouldn't prevent the intro from being run from the menu. Also in that topic is a command to prevent the game from switching resolutions for video cutscenes, which could help (worth a shot, anyway).

Quote
The resolution switching in is indeed very annoying, especially when you Alt-TAB to Windows and back again. Oh well, for cutscenes this behavior can be prevented with the following line in the config.div file:
resolution switch 0

With that all cutscenes will be played in 640x480, while the monitor resolution stays at the resolution you play the game in, for instance 1024x768.

Did you try at a lower resolution, without the font enlargement patch, etc? (ie when it was first installed)

It seems to be from using RunFirst. I tried changing the resolution and the font patch, but neither worked. Maybe I won't need to use RunFirst with the GOG version. I know it worked well for sound issues with my disc version of the game.

I went to config.lcl file to change the "startup logo" so I could enable the first cutscene to run when I star up the game, now that it works! It said "start up logo 0"
What should it say for the movies to run? I tried putting a "1" after it, as well as leaving no number at all after it, but neither seemed to work. Thanks again

Edit - I'm trying a fresh install to see what I have first

A clean install makes this a moot point, but I'm pretty sure "start up logo 1" in the config.div file should enable the intro video, or you could have just deleted the "start up logo 0" line.

It seems the GOG version has the introductory video disabled by default

Sorry to dig this up, but even if I try to run the opening cutscene from the menu it does not work if I use RunFirst, which I use "to get rid of the static sound glitch". Point is - is there a way to enable cutscenes while still using only one processor? I have also tried just opening up the Task Manager but have similar results. Thanks

Did you try ImageCFG, or something, rather than RunFirst? I don't know if it will work any better than going through the Task Manager, though.

Have you had any problems with other cutscenes?

I have not tried that. No problems with any other cutscenes(I have only seen the first one). If I don't reduce the number of processors, everything works fine - but then there is obviously the sound issue. Right now I am experimenting with a utility called "cpugrab" and running it at like 75%. With only an hour of game time for comparison, I have not had any issues with the static sound yet, and the cutscenes play. I will update later.

that didn't work either, although the frequency seemed to be reduced
