entering broken valley {after Damian destroyed it}, I took control of the fort just to the right of DR. needleman's storage. I did the switch that unlocks the area just to the right of the champion zeppelin {in relation to the fort left of that. the problem is that there is no platform there, just a big rock! the black ring are inside and the only way to defeat them was to sic my creature on them.
once i figured out how to get inside of the fort {the one to the left of the starting entrance..ie, by way of the portal from stone's flying fortress}, I searched for a switch in there, but found none. the switch for this fort is also covered over by a big rock as well. I stumbled into a portal that sent me over to the left of the zeppelin.....killed those guys, but when I moved out far enough, i found it too was covered over by a big rock.....could not get back in. this glitch, for some reason, is making it impossible for me to enter rayun's fortress....I entered the other one {her name start's with a "G"} o.k. and defeated her, getting the potion of wisdom {which I drank}. ....I am using Barbatos {I think that's his name}. I'm not too sure, but i believe I did this quest o.k. before i installed flames of vengence.....do you folks think this has something to do with this? confused

Did you install the FoV patch, assuming it wasn't already updated when you downloaded it?
If not, try installing the patch, and then leave Broken Valley and return to see if getting the game to reload the area will fix the problem. Failing that you could try reverting to a save before you first entered Broken Valley again, if you have one available and it wouldn't involve redoing too much stuff.

With FoV installed I believe a couple people did run into similar problems with the environment when returning to Broken Valley, but I couldn't find any relevant topics in a quick search.

Try emailing support@larian.com (Sunday night, if you want to keep playing over the weekend), with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this post.

If you want to check if there is anything else you can do there, here is a map of Broken Valley, showing the locations of the generators that need to be disabled to lower all of the anti-dragon shields. Also, from the D2:ED walkthrough;
Location: Broken Valley

-To disable the anti-dragon zone around the mine, you'll need to find a
generator just west of the mine and flip a nearby lever in human form.

-Another lever can be found just southeast of Lord Lovis' tower.

-The next zone to disable requires you to land in the area only accessible
after flipping the prior lever (west of Lord Lovis' tower, just north of the
still active zone). Find and use a teleporter after you land, then locate and
flip the lever at the top of the new area to disable all but one remaining
anti-dragon zone.

-Next, disable the barrier by landing on a platform on the west side of Maxos'
temple and flipping the lever there. Geshniz's Headquarters can be accessed
via the teleporter on this platform.

-The last anti-dragon zone can be disabled by flipping a lever not too far
west of the zone itself (like the others, it's found inside of a thick-walled
fort easily visible on the map).

-Doctor Needleman is sitting on top of Lovis' Tower. You can mind read him to
gain his storage password. Find his storage south of the tower, right next to
the portal to Stone's Flying Fortress. The key to the door inside is hidden
beneath a few barrels to the right of the door. Unfortunately, the loot you
find isn't really worth the mind reading cost.

-You find a potion of wisdom on Geshniz's corpse. You can drink it to gain 5
int, but if you've chosen Allan as your alchemist, doing so will prevent you
from upgrading your alchemy garden a second time.

-The key to the chest on the middle floor of the mine office is sitting on the
left side of a desk on the top floor.

In XP the saves are in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\ %username% \Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Savegames

or in Vista / Win 7

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders (XP, Vista, Win 7).

you would not believe this RAZE......I downloaded the patch, but it did not install. I have been wrestling with this problem for quite a while. a week ago, I came back in here and downloaded it again {per your suggestion}. the problem was still there. so I went into the game file and found it. I clicked on it, and it began to install. not only that.....it even came up with another patch to install as well. actually, I think I downloaded this one from the main site.....it did the same thing. with all of this done.....the only thing I did not do was reboot my computer.......but it didn't matter! it worked anyway!!!!!! after doing the two generals that I could not kill, I went around and found a few more thing I could not see.....trinkets and odds and ends.

right now.....I am one fat and happy steel swinger! wink
