Hi there... just picked up Divinity 2 the other day (with the expansion) on release day and have noticed a problem with quest rewards. I'm hardly EVER getting any decent equipment or scrolls or ANYTHING!! All i get to choose from after completing a 'quest' is the standard extra exp. gold and potions or some crap like apples, beer, POTS?!? wtf?? or crappy books that keep popping up over and over like 'The Damned One' I've seen at least 4 times. I've completed at least 25 quests so far (probably more) and at level 14 and have seen outside of the mandatory equipment rewards i.e. Sir Robin's gauntlets, MAYBE 4 items such as a piece of armor. I've looked at some walkthroughs and chests in the hidden storage areas are supposed? to have scrolls I think... not one yet... and rewards for quests are supposed to give the odd 'unique' item.... cutlery, apples and POTS do NOT in my opinion qualify as unique crap. Is it supposed to be doing this? I WANT SOME GEAR!! for crying out loud... I played and enjoyed the Divinity and Beyond Divinity games and enjoyed them immensely and don't remember them being so CHEAP with the loot!!
Sincerely, An avid gamer.

Most quest rewards in DKS give a chance at a potion or two, and a "misc." item (a junk piece of cookware or cutlery, a food/drink item, or a book). Most don't give equipment any more, although a few do.
Quests that give "unique equipment" as a reward (such as Champion David's Gauntlets from "The Fugitive") no longer show the item during the reward screen. It's put directly into your inventory.
Storage places also no longer carry the (potentially) high level scrolls. Dreavan'sand Miller Upton's storage has nothing much of value. Sir Robin's and Naberius' storage have a Blood Echelon armor piece each.

Thanks for the explanation! I played the 'original' version of Divinity 2 on the pc when it first came out, but I botched upgrading my tower by accidentally selling one of the body parts I needed... so I kinda let it go fallow trying to get the gumption to start over as I had no save to fall back on. Then I heard it was coming out for the 360 WITH the expansion, so I waited.....and waaaaited now it's here and I was finding the relic drops alot rarer than I remembered so I thought maybe something was wrong... especially after seeing the Damned One book 3 times in a row as a reward... grrrr.
Thanks again, and am enjoying it as much as I did the FIRST time around... now I'll get to finish it.

Random loot should be giving better equipment, even if it doesn't show up as frequently. I got a legendary quality bow on level 2 (damage went from 2-5 to 10-13) from a crate in the Forgotten Outpost by the farm. Merchants also give better loot, though in general I usually prefer to mostly rely on loot. Welcome to the forum.

Your best equipment in the game doesn't come until near the end of ED in DKS and then when you get into FoV look out there are some kick ass weapons and armor in there that more than make up for the lack of special armor drops from quests or enemies.

OK then... well I'm still unsure of the random loot thing, or if I'm just getting screwed with this playthrough. I just got to maxos temple and I've cleared EVERYTHING pretty much up to this point and in the mirror room trial I saved before opening the chests as I wasn't sure if it would fail the trial. 1st opening I got gold and a cpl of potions in both chests... reloaded to see if there would be better stuff and found MY FIRST SCROLL AS LOOT up to this point in the game. I can understand maybe balancing the game out for powerful stuff, but I really have found very, very little weapons/armor in drops or chests... this is my 1st scroll and I'm almost at the 1/3 mark of the game?? wooow this is rough.. oh and I've got about 10k with extremely little spending done... bought maybe 20 things including potions.

Formulas in Broken Valley can be bought from Mrchant Lamotte, and the bandit Martis in the Bandit Camp (before completing "Into the Bandit's Den").

I am well aware of the purchasable formulas, but the only one useful to me was the ONLY healing scroll I got from Lamotte and believe me, I bought it! the others were repeats of intelligence/str/dex buffs that sucked +1-+3 besides I have those potions pouring out my ying-yang and a cpl of mana ones which I don't have a use for (yet) I did buy 2 armor boost ones both for +4 mag and melee... but the selection has been poor (understandably early in game) but ONE DAMN HEALING FORMULA?!? thats IT?? c'mon.....

Hold on to any weapons, armor or jewelry that suck, for the most part but have good enchantments or there like 10 lvls away. Take them to your enchanter to have them removed before you sell, or hold for later. I get my best ones added to my list that way, rather than purchases or loot.

Been doing that too, Senior Cinco... been playing RPG's since the commodore 64, I hoard eeeevrything unless it's truly useless or a duplicate with no redeeming value. But it seems I spoke a little too soon about the scrolls... now the Maxos temples thrown about 6 of them at me... after going thru the game so far with NONE... utterly bizarre.

My bad...Guess I should have read through the posts a bit better. Glad to see things turned around, and good luck with that.

Based on my extensive observations, it's possible no chests in Broken Valley are programmed to ever contain scrolls. My previous complaints about loot do seem like an issue with the treasure sets most chests have.

I'm now at the Island, and since Maxos temple, it's been tossing scrolls at me like no tomorrow... some good loot too... strange that the beginning of the game offered up next to nothing but it's definitely making up for it now! I have got about a dozen scrolls and a few weapons/armor in the past cpl of hours more than the entire rest of the game I've played so far.

Hi viligeidiot, it's indeed true the first Ego Draconis version (Xbox) I've played I found very early on Formula's, but now playing the Dragon Knight Saga version (Xbox) I've, like you, found my first Formula in the Maxos Temple ( apart from 2 potion formula's in the Upton Miller his cellar!). Maybe you've bad luck by traders because I found after awhile "trading" a stronger Healing potion formula by Lamotte ... but I must say I go after every level up to all possible trader's looking for goodies Have fun with the game !!
On 7th of february 2015 : I start a new adventure in the Divinity world of Original Sin, it's a Fantastic Freaking Fabulous Funny ... it's my All Time Favorite One !
