If you get the stand-alone version of FoV, you'll be able to use your original ED saves, but they changed too much in the 'remastered' DKS for the two versions to be compatible.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the availability of the stand-alone FoV on the XBox (it's a digital download on the PC).

Larian couldn't get just the add-on published for the Xbox (it is too large for DLC, as was originally intended), so FoV is only available as part of DKS.

Ouch! I never realised that before - I thought it was available in disk form in some countries at least. Now I understand why XBox users are so upset about the lack of compatibility. Yet another reason to avoid consoles in my opinion - region locking, scratched disks, RRoDs, outdated hardware, tiny but insanely expensive hard-disks and inflated game prices were bad enough.

There was a German PC DVD release of FoV, but digital download only for other PC releases, and no Xbox releases.
For all the pre-release complaining about the DKS Xbox release, it didn't cost much more than just the add-on would have been anyway. If I had the option I would have continued with my existing save, but you can easily re-create your character if you don't want to start over (equipment would have been upgraded anyway, so its lack starting new in FoV isn't a big deal, etc). The only real difference starting a new FoV game in DKS is that the battle tower servants are random, so you don't necessarily get the ones you want (on the other hand, you may rarely need to return to the battle tower).

besides, i can never get used to playing games via my keyboard. Fair enough, although you don't need a top-of-the-line PC to play DKS at console quality graphics. And you can use an XBox 360 controller on a PC (you need to buy a USB receiver to use the wireless ones, but it's not expensive). I have one but don't use it for DKS, as the PC control scheme isn't really optimal for it - I'd hate to have to manage my inventory with a thumbstick, instead of just clicking and dragging with the mouse. But most windows games have proper '360 control schemes - games like Arkham Asylum and Assassins Creed 2 are much better with a controller than with mouse and keyboard.
