I bought the game through Steam and whenever I start it up, everything seems to load fine. I get through the intro stuff without a hitch, but then the menu comes up and all the graphics are scrambled up, like it's corrupted or it didn't load correctly. I've tried messing with all of my graphics options, (which is easy because the game still works just fine otherwise,) but I haven't been able to fix it.

Here's my specs:
ATI Radeon 1600
2 gigs RAM
Windows Vista 64bit (very updated)
Intel Core 2 Processor

I guess it could be my specs, but I checked everything with the required specs on Steam and I thought that I was alright. I've also tried reinstalling the game twice.

Any advice?

Unfortunately, it's the 1600 (integrated or separate?) I'd say anything 3 years ago would have been alright, but it's just not enough for graphically intense games released in the past couple years, let alone the newer APIs for which it does not have hardware support.

The minimum graphics required are 256MB with Shader Model 3.0, nVidia GeForce 7600 / ATI Radeon X1600. If the Radeon 1600 is integrated, there may be a problem with the amount of memory.

Try emailing support@larian.com, with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this topic (see the DKS support page).

Not sure what integrated means, or how to see if mine is or isn't in that category.

Also, I suppose that I did a minor typo. It is the X1600, thus why I thought it would work.

Integrated means built into the motherboard (which may have dedicated memory, or it could take a portion of the main system RAM). Laptops generally have integrated graphics. With a desktop, if the graphics are integrated the video cable connector is usually oriented vertically, along with the ethernet port, possibly audio jacks, usually a couple UBS potrs, etc. Discrete graphics (a card you can pull out and replace), would usually have the port lower down the back of the case, oriented horizontally.

If you run dxdiag, it can generate a report detailing some system information, and should probably indicate whether the graphics are discrete or integrated. Vista moved some stuff around compared to XP; I think you should be able to run dxdiag by clicking Start, browse through All Programs / Accessories and click on Run (or hit the WindowsKey+R), type in dxdiag and hit Enter.

I have the same issue. Everything in game works perfectly, but the graphics for all menus, text and the map is all screwed up. All models, textures and effects in game show up nicely. I tried all different graphics settings in-game.

Specs:
CPU Speed 2.2 GHz
RAM 2.0 GB
Video Card
Radeon X1600 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)
Video RAM 1.0 GB
Hardware T&L Yes
Pixel Shader version 3.0
Vertex Shader version 3.0
Free Disk Space 133.5 GB

Graphic card is not, or at least is not supposed to be, integrated. That's all I've got.

There is an option in the graphics settings called "Single core optimized"
Even if you have a dual core cpu, it could help with rendering since the GPU is at the very minimum of the spectrum.

Also, make sure you have the very latest AMD drivers, they could still help with issues for the x1600 on current games.

In the more advanced options, i would recommend turning off HDR, lowering texture quality and vegetation quality.

If this does not fix the issue please contact us. http://www.larian.com/dragonknightsaga_support.php
