I've noticed that I've been using warhammers a disproportionate amount of time in this game. There seem to be so many more powerful warhammers than the typical swords you'd expect in an RPG.

Defenders of Aleroth Vampire Mace dominated through the Battle Tower since that set gives +30 Magic Damage total for completing it.

Mister Smashy served by its side once I reached level 22.

Razakel's Hammer replaced the DoA Mace once I started seeking better armor than its set provides.

The Maxos Mallet then found its way into my weapon slots for the rest of ED, with overwhelming magic power.

In FoV, Deodatus' Mace, with four enchantment slots and high melee/magic damage, is going to dominate.

In addition, there's another mace (forget the name) with a lot of magic power AND +4 to Destruction (I like magic missile-slinging Warriors).

In contrast, the only swords I've really played with were the Blade of Hypnerotomachia (which, I admit, blows all of ED's warhammers out of the water, except Maxos Mallet, which sits by its side in dual-wield), and... well, that's it, actually. I used Brightblade for a bit, but not nearly as long or much as I did in ED (where Brightblade and Tagos Axe played the same role that DoA Mace and Mister Smashy do now).

The Blood Blade and Tiger's Bite are pretty spectacular swords though.

I am in blood
Stepp'd in so far, that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o'er.

Tiger's Bite is pretty nice, but I don't like its skill (Jump Attack).

Blood Blade is also nice, but two enchant slots means no room for Butchery 9. +9 to Crit Rate isn't to be scoffed at.

Right now I think I am dual wielding Warhammers that increase Vit, Spir, Dex and crit chance because I use my bow (Ranger build) and not them, so the bonuses are grand, and if they have any good enchantments, I put them on my bow and leave them blank unless it's HP/Mp regen. But for the short time I played ED I had Brightblade and Tagos' Axe like you said and that carried me a LONG ways. ^^;

I also have the impression the game is a bit hammer-heavy. Which is bad as I dislike how they look (ugly and clumsy).

So far, I have been pretty content with Laiken's Sword (which I replaced only quite late in the AddOn with something better). But I do agree the hammers are not very elegant and there are many, many good ones to find.

funny! i haven't even equipped one yet. it seemed to me that all the hammers were magic-oriented.

iirc, i picked up the blood echelon 1H sword around level 14 or so. with the bonuses from the rest of the set it's ridiculous. i just found a level 22 2H sword that only does equal damage.

There are both magic- as well as str-based hammers in the game (and a few pretty good ones at that). I don't equip them because they look ugly, especially when worn on the back. wink

Blade of Hypnerotomachia...good times...good times.

Though I enjoyed the 2 handed champion random loot sword that I found in the Georomy's family chest. Once I had that weapon for my pure warrior build, I didn't even switch it during the expansion because of how powerful it was, plus the charms and enchantments I gave it had made it more powerful than any weapon in the expansion oddly.
