If you eat the people turned into vegetables, how are you supposed to get into the Forbidden Archives? I know there's a password you can give the book in front of the door (1-6-8), but I want to know where in the game you're supposed to learn that password.

There are three "hidden notes" through out Avelon- one in Bernard's Room, another on top of a book case to the right in the Ministry, and i dunno where the third is.
Each has a corresponding hint- [1 is 1], [2 is 6], [3 is 8]- that tells you the code.

like the "Magic Rume" quest, you don't need the Notes to use the code.

I figured that much out after I ate one of the guys, then asked another what to do next. But I'm curious, if you eat all three, who is left to give you a hint or point you in the right direction? Or do you have to just take a random guess at that point? Because otherwise, it seems you'd be SOL unless you talk to EVERYONE in town and hope for the best.

Does Valeri even have the "password for archives" speech option unless you asked one of the veggies about who to ask?

No talking is needed, the notes lie on the ground (and vanish if you finish the quest I think, never found the third note myself).

The passwords to unlock the doors (and access the levers) isn't the same as the password for the door with the console (which isn't even needed when using all 3 levers).

Well, the doors' passwords aren't even really passwords, they're just speech options with a specific effect when used, that are triggered by event flags.

And while the notes may be on the ground regardless, my question is this:

Assume a completely unspoiled player is playing FoV for the first time. He mindreads a vegetable, then eats it because the mindread says it powers him up. +2 stat points! So now he eats the other two vegetables on sight, and never learns the purpose they serve.

Now, he needs to get into the Archives to get the Elven Alphabet and talk to Thaddeus. But the door is sealed! All that's left is the pedestal, asking for numbers.

How is the player, in that situation, intended to learn about the notes that contain the password? What NPC will direct them to find those notes? Or are they just SOL unless they either find the notes by random chance (and figure out they are for the archives door), or unless they guess the password through brute force?

Unless you haven't noticed already, most of FoV's main quest involves "random chance" stumpling upon the required items...

I haven't, actually, at least not to that extent. Any quest items needed are quite obviously pointed to, as are even non-quest items. One way or another, the correct direction to go in is made clear, even if it's just the name of a dungeon or building. That alone is enough direction.

Not really.

You need 5 "things"... and it's up to you to discover them without any clues what-so-ever.
And many side-parts of this main quest require items and subquests without any mention.

No big deal for someone like me who does *everything* anyway, so continues eventually on some point, but people who rather only do the main quest should probably not go and play FoV...

Simple exploration reveals most things. You're meant to discover the five objects while completing other objectives. I've found three so far:

Engineer Sword: Part of the whole "stop the undead uprising" quest line given by Augustus and then Nericon. Entering the Crow's Nest is necessary for a large number of quests.

Zombie Jake Ring: Finding your way into Madam Eve's is easy, and that gets you started.

Halliwell Pendant: This was the least obvious one, however the Anti Demon Grip Spell is quite obvious on the desk near the (essential) Elven alphabet book, and you'll probably be suspicious of Halliwell's room in the inn, anyways.

Basically, simple exploration and completing existing quests gives you much of your direction. But finding those notes for the password without being told where they are (or that the password is in that form at all) relies on a ridiculous amount of sheer exploration it's quite out of place.

Actually, you don't have to rely on crazy exploration. Once you eat one of the vegetables you can ask the others – and the talking painting too – about another way into the archives. They point you to Valeri, who tells you that there's notes to be found somewhere in the neighbourhoods of Augustus, Bernard and Chanelle (ABC). So there you go.

Oh, the painting can direct you to the clues as well? Ok, that answers my question. I was just concerned about what gives you the clues if you eat all three vegetables before any can explain about asking Valeri. Thanks!

Question: is it 2 Stat points per Veggie-man? I know one of them gives you a skill book, but with the absurd amount of Skill books you get in FoV- the stat points would be worth more than the crap the others offer (a key to a chest of random junk, and a key to a chest full of random potions)...

the question again becomes- is it worth it to FAIL the Salad bar quest in favor of a bunch of stat points; or to complete the quest for a skill book, random junk and quest-awarded exp and good?
