Normally I fight pretty well as a dragon. I'm at level 27 by the time I face Zagan at level 20, but I can't last more than a few seconds in a fight. I drink potions and I'm at level 5 Dragon Spirit, but I'm hit by attacks of at least 500 hitpoints. I have 1215 hitpoints and I set my "warning" for 40%. So the game is paused, I unpause and click on Dragon Spirit and I'm still dead in about one second. This means that my remaining 406 points as well as any healing from Dragon Spirit are gone, toute suite. Talk about your bad demon. What I see while fighting is a huge, yellow glowing ball in from of me, filling my entire field of vision. I can't fly into it, or in any other direction, and there are several of these, so there's no escape. Once the yellow comes out, it's curtains. I mean what is this? I did manage to take out the two nests, by flying right to them and doing a bit of damage and then flying up to the safe spot at the top of the cavern - where you can regain your human form. That's what I've been doing. I go out, do a small amount of damage and fly back to the exit cave on top. I say exit because there's a way out there. I've been at it for about 4 hours now and there's still about 20 or so flying creatures and I can't even find Zagan, although I know he's there somewhere. From what I read on the forum this isn't supposed to be that difficult a fight, and you get a great reward, so I don't want to miss it. Is it a known bug? I'd appreciate any help. I mean, like big time. OK, back at it ...

Are you playing the original release of D2:ED, or that section of DKS? In the original release being at a high enough level would make this an easy fight, but it is quite challenging in DKS regardless. I forget what level I was in D2:ED at that point, but the demons could not do any damage to me, so I could just sit in place and use Fire Sphere every 5 seconds until they were all dead, then use Firebreath on the nests. Lowering the difficulty setting might help, though at least in DKS that doesn't make a huge difference there. You've already discovered the best strategy for this fight, heading to the exit passage right away, and using it as a staging ground for quick hit and run attacks (jump back into the cavern, attack and retreat repeatedly). While healing in human form, you can try enabling target lock (on the Xbox hold the left trigger down); I was able to kill several demons with my bow that way, after they flew up to the passage (though if they don't stay close very long they can easily fly out of range). How much damage are you doing to the demons? A couple fire spheres should be enough to kill one. From another topic in a DKS forum: Zagan himself wasn't terribly difficult to defeat [at level 25], but the rest of the opponents in there were a pain. It would be easy with more space, but if you loose track of where you are going or bump into something and stop moving, that is likely to prove fatal. I tried repeatedly heading to the exit cave to transform back to human, but returning for hit and run attacks wasn't doing damage fast enough (by the time I finished the transformation animation there could be 2 or 3 opponents shooting at me, and maybe 1 or 2 casting Dragon Sphere). I tried making a couple runs at the nest tower, but the first time I stayed too long finishing it off with Dragon Breath, and died shortly after it did. The second run I broke away sooner, but got caught up on something and couldn't move for a second, so I died. I reloaded my save before triggering the cutscene with Zagan, and will go back later to finish everyone off. [At level 35] it was easier, but still a bit of a pain. I used pretty much the same technique as before, concentrating on getting the number of flying opponents down first, to allow a run at a nest. Apparently clearing the fortresses was good practice, as I rarely got hung up on obstructions, etc. I still had a bit of a problem trying to target specific opponents, where pausing the using the right stick could, for example, cycle between demons above me, when I was flying directly towards a nest (and was a lot closer to the nest than the demons). In these cases unpausing and getting a little closer would generally allow me to target what I wanted, though the delay could help my opponents. For the opponents in Zagan's cave, I seemed to make faster progress getting a Firesphere off and then returning to the exit passage right away, healing when necessary (usually the case, since often there was an attack directed at me before I finished transforming), and then jumping back into the cavern. Trying to fly around in such a small space and get a few attacks in was more trouble than help (though I didn't do much of that when I went back at the higher level; just attacks of opportunity returning from going after the nests). Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. From what you've said, it's looking like something is wrong with the game. If I'm face-to-face with a level-20 demon, I lose every time and by a substantial margin. I mean when I die the demon is depleted by perhaps one-third of its hitpoints. I have a lot of saves, so I went back and it seems that when I don't take out the nests, there are fewer flying demons. I'm going to try it from here. I have dragon skill book that I use before the battle. I put it into Spirit for the protection, but maybe I'll take a "friend" and see how that works. I'm going to need something unconventional. This is really an odd situation. It's not a complete bug, where NO damage is done, but there's almost none which is worse in a way because I won't just walk away from it if there's a chance to beat it with enough perseverance. I appreciate the collection of responses. It helps to see some other points of views and experiences. This is one game where I'm glad I didn't go by the reviews. I like this game a lot, and this is coming from a Bethesda fan. I've been reading the forum for tips and it's run quite well, also. I'm giving Zagan the rest of the night and if I don't win by then I'm moving on. It's not part of the main quest and I'll get it next playthrough. Thanks again for the help.
Whew! I beat the #@$^$%#!!*(%# Amazing how personal this gets. Anyway, I had to go back to an earlier save and come into the cave. I took out the two nests immediately, so the number of flying demons would be minimal. Only then could I concentrate on Zagan. It was still a terribly buggy fight - I'd pause in the air and be unable to move, the flying demons had a lot more firepower than I did, etc. Still, I'm outta there and glad to be gone.

A few people have run into glitches where certain opponents were invulnerable or just much tougher than they should be (more so in D2:ED than DKS). A couple people had this problem with boars, and several with one of the opponents on the mountain path at the start of the fjords. Sometimes just leaving an area and returning (to get the game to to reload the map) would fix the problem, or a couple people just went and did other things, and were able to take out the opponents normally when they came back later.
If the dragon stone is not disabled (it probably is), you could try returning to the battle tower and then leaving, and see if the opponents are still as strong. I don't think there is any way back into that part of the cave again after you take the teleporter out.
In DKS the first time I entered the Hall of Echoes, the flying opponents there were very tough (their attacks could not be avoided except at long range, and it took at least 10 Fire Spheres to kill them), and I tried that section repeatedly. I could not take out opponents faster than the nests produced them, so it was an impossible fight (even considering I had it on the highest difficulty). After I reloaded and did a few other things, the next time I entered the Hall of Echoes the opponents were still tough, but their attacks were not nearly as difficult to avoid, and 2 or 3 Fire Sphere were enough to defeat the common opponents (3-5 for the generals), meaning I could clear enough opponents to take out nests without dying, as long as I didn't make any mistakes. I also learned the shield skill, which helped a bit.

well i understand your problem:
first: Zagan isn't your problem is is only level 20. but if you take a good look around you'll see nestdais 3 of them they spawn level 23 demons so with three of them and Zagan you'll be seeing your death comming very soon.
so you first action is KILL THE NESTDAIS as quickley as possible while moving around, before the can spawn enemy's!!!!! then zagan will be no problem for you.
I'm not God, but I'm close
