Here's my systems specs:

OS: WIndows 2000 Professional(SP3)
Video: Geforce 4 Ti 4400 (44.03)
Sound: Creative Labs Soundblaster 5.1 Gamer (latest drivers as of 6/25/03)
Motherboard: Gigabyte with Via KT400 chipset (forgot model #)
RAM: 768Mb of DDR 333
Processor: AMD AthlonXP 1700+
Latest Via 4in1 drivers as of 6/25/03
Latest game version upgrade as of 6/25/03

I have turned off all background programs & services that Windows will allow me to shut off. My color depth is set at 16bit. I have toned down the sound by one notch.

Now, here is the exact problem as I have witnessed it. I can roam around freely in the outside area & go in houses & everything just fine. After I go underground however, the next time I go into a house & then exit it the game will crash to the desktop. If I'm lucky, It might take 2 houses before it crashes. I guess I am fortunate enough to have a predictable crash, but this should still not be. I have had maybe one or two random crashes, but they are so infrequent that It's not a problem.

I know how much work goes into these games, & with an infinite possibility of system configurations, there are going to be problems. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this particular problem, but I hope I can be of assistance in figuring the cause & possible fix for the problem.

You are the second person with this problem, that I know of. See Roofs’ fade-in/fade-out crash, and the suggestions there.

It sounds like you have already found the Technical Support FAQ and / or Troubleshooting and Manual Install Procedure posts...

What resolution and mode (Direct3D/Direct Draw/Software) are you playing in?

I have tried all 4 options.

Software gives me a screaming 90fps (talk about a fast paced game. Kinda tough when you have the reflexes of a 3 legged parapalegic cat)
DirectDraw gives me an easy 50+fps
D3D doesn't work on the test, haven't tried it for the game yet.
Glide goes about like DirectDraw does.

I've tried all resolutions as well.

I did read the roof fade in/fade out thread & it does seem he has a similar problem. It does seem like mine is a little more predictable than his, but who knows. At least I do know that I am not alone with the problem & have somewhere else to start from.
