Yesterday for some reason I got a serious urge to play Divine Divinity again, I haven't played it through since 2004 so I thought I'd read up on a few things (namely broken quests as I remember not being able to finish a few) before I began.
The first question I want to ask is, is it worth getting the remastered version on GOG instead of playing the original version with Patch 1.34. From another thread the differences don't seem that major:
Version 1.4A is the newest version.
This version has been patched to the latest available patch, so patching the game is not necessary and not recommended.
Extra fixes and features have been added to this version since the last patch. They are:
General:
- Feature: Allow more resolutions
- Feature: Recreated config tool
- Fixed numerous crashes and freezes
- Fixed: encumbrance could make items disappear
- Feature: Tooltips of damage stats on stat screen improved
Skills:
- Fixed: Spellbooks no longer ignore level requirements
- Fixed: All weapon expertise skills give percentile bonuses instead of static bonuses
- Fixed: True Sight damage is now actually used
- Fixed: Bow and crossbow expertise bonuses are now actually used
- Fixed: Divine Eye removes the fog of war
- Fixed: Deadly Gift's Scorpion Trap is less powerful
- Fixed: Resurrected enemies die after region swap
The only thing that really looks worth it is the widescreen mode, it would be nice to play it in 1024x600 rather than 800x600 or 1024x768, but I'm not really sure it's worth buying it again for that.... But then again it is very cheap. The rest of the questions I have have mostly been asked before but I've never seen any solution to them so I thought I'd ask again in case someone has discovered something recently.
So here goes, is it possible to change the resolution manually to 1024x600? I can edit the config.div file and change it but it will still play it in 1024x768. Also is it possible to play in windowed mode?
I was also wondering if it's possible to edit a few minor things in the game. Someone asked before about changing a character's special move special move but not their appearance, so for example could you play as a warrior who can sneak and still looks like a warrior, I presume not as there probably is no animation for the warrior model to crouch.
This thread on hex offsets has is some interesting information but only for changing both. Also is it possible to change the voice sets without changing appearance? (Just out of curiosity.)
This has been asked numerous time but not recently, is it possible to edit the portraits? Has anyone found where they're stored in the game? Or if not, can you change portraits to that of a different class?
Lastly is it possible to swap armour appearances? For example can I get the Armour of Larian to look like Dwarven Plate Armour? Messing with an old save file I naďvely swapping the hex string after the name in items.000 but that would probably have only changed attributes rather than appearance if it hadn't caused the game to crash. Or can I get my helmet to be invisible so I can still see the character's head? This
thread on modding is interesting too but it's not quite what I'm looking for, it's mostly for attributes.
