In the original release of D2:ED there were generators (and associated anti-dragon shields) in the flying fortresses (including Broken Valley after taking over the battle tower), which had to be disabled in human form. In DKS the flying fortresses were redesigned (making them a bit more fortressy) and most of the generators removed (one remains in Stone's fortress, in the section where you encounter Xanlosch and Isabelle).
