ok really sorry guys... i'm sure this has been asked about 13 squillion times already on this forum, but i dont exactly know how to use the search feature here... so i'm just gonna have to ask... is there any way of being able to keep the sword in the stone? the one of course where the ghost pops out and you gotta whoop his butt after you take the sword out... but then he'll just keep coming back... and i've heard that he'll go around and start killing the people in town if you keep the sword for too long (so i've never kept it, fearing that i'd save it after the townsfolk are all long dead, and not really wanting to re-load the game from ages ago... if that makes sense)....

so... back to the point... is there a way of permanently killing the freakin' ghost in the stone without having to put the sword back?

no biggie if it cant be done... personally, i enjoy the holy sword (aka the Nobleman's Sword) from merging the holy weapons together...)



and the other question... what is the most powerful, non-random weapon in the game? and where do i get it? lol

Nobleman's sword isn't random, it's quest related and you can always find it there.
Now about the other weapon... some of the wise ladies of the forum <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> mentioned several powerful swords. I am still using the Singing Blade. It implicts Freeze[2] on hit.

Singing Blade: A reward for killing a thug. It's the Marcus/Trevor/Tingalf quest (Ars Magicana).

Sword in the Stone: you can keep it if you take it AFTER solving all quests in the Dark Forest. The people there still get killed, but you've already moved on, right? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

No way to kill the ghost permanently.

Blade of Chaos
Singing Blade
False Excalibur (sword in the stone)
Bast*rd Sword of the impolite knight
Seth's Sword
Sword of the Gods
Nobleman Sword
Kistandalius's dagger

Yes Kiya indeed random.
Do you think that an item editor that could edit the charm level, the weapon class level (name colour) and the magical damage bonus would be a cool cheat?

I don't use editors, if you mean the one Raze posts (Zakaron) - I take what the game gives me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> - sometimes top, sometimes flop <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> - and I don't use cheats, not even the multiple opening of the charm slots in the older versions.

I hear lots of talk about the sword of chaos and the singing blade, but for me they both sucked bad. Love that random thing! I used the brightblade thing from Seth, it had 100vitality 10con which was really nice at level 3 when I got it and gratuated to Bow of the Angels or something that I bought for about 15000gold. I then used the sword (1hander) from the holy item quest, although next time I'll choose the amulet because I didnt find another decent amulet during the whole game. Lastly I used sword of the gods... and I got wonderful stats on that one including:
5 charm slots
random stat increases
100vit/100mana
5frost
5lightning
5manadrain
4fire
effect poison weapon

But since hell spikes kills everything in 1-2 seconds, and kills more than one thing at once, I never really even used a sword for anything more than the stat increases and charm slots.

Yes, it certianly would be.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />...
it would sure beat, re-loading one hundred thousand times for
that "ultimate weapon"..... personally, i don't do the reload thing,
or the game edit thing either.....but many here do....
and would probably love a

In the wastelands there is also an axe called “Axe of a hundred crusades” you get from killing imps, and before identifying it if you save and load until you get the proper combination of magical damage you end up with a fantastic weapon.

I once made an experiment and created a one handed orb “Orb of Magic” and a magic shield “Ultimate Defence” along with the “Amulet of Glory”, a Ruby ring, a Sapphire ring, “Boots of speed”, “Leggings of strength”, “Belt of Virtue” and a fabulous Armour I called the “Spider Silk Shirt of Impenetrability”.
Finally I added the “Gloves of casting”
I created it such that its weight was only 10 units while its armour value was 1000. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
I certainly was playing as a mage and each item was dedicated to enhance what it stood for.
Nothing random.
I enjoyed casting spells such as the directional but non targeting meteor strike, the perfectly selective Electric thunderbolts, hell spikes, curse and telekinesis.

I tell you that a divine mage was not meant to be without such a concoction of items.
A thief would love to have “The Everlasting Lock Picks”, “Boots of the wind”, “Leggings of evasion”, “Helmet of Invisibility”, “Belt of wall climbing”, “Dagger of Treachery”, “Rainbow Ring of Hypnosis”, “Snakes Ruby Ring of Poison” and the “Gloves of swift hands”

I am certain that many crappie items could have bean replaced by such if the system was not based on randomisation to end up with all combinations of adjectives and roots along with each and every graphics of an item. For example, the singing sword image is the same two handed death knight sword and so forth.
In this game you may practically edit a spoon to have a charm quality of 5 and a damage between 1500 and 2000 augmented with all magical damage available and kill the Lord of Chaos itself by that spoon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I may post verbose information I extracted to hex edit my favourite weapons including the names!

If that is not practical for many of you out there I would spend some time creating an ultimate item editor for those who love to reconstruct items in a more favourable way, (some people out there call it cheating and it may be if you misuse such editors).

One thing though, must be a manual hex edit and is very difficult, is to append a new image for an item to be associated with it. I really do not recommend that level of manipulation for the majority of you because crashing the program would be almost guaranteed. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

The items.000 file Hex-editing should be quite sufficient for most item editing purposes.
The data structure of an item includes an indexing number that follows capital letter “G” such as
__G2576, repeated four times within the structure.
If all what you need is to increase the charm level of your item to level 5, then find your item first by a unique name or else you may edit an item that you do not have.
Next, find the third index number of that set of four and count exactly 16 bytes to skip after the last ASCII of the third index number; the byte that follows IS the byte that holds the number of the charm level.
