staff-type weapons such as halberds, bardiches & the like have no weapon expertise attached to them. does that mean they are intended for use by either a survivor or mage and not by a warrior?

iirc, these are the weapons expertise: sword, mace, hammer, bow, crossbow, spear, & axe. there's no expertise for staff. the other expertise in the way of the warrior is shield expertise. so i took that to mean that staff-type weapons weren't designed for the warrior class, though admittedly, i come across some really impressive bardiches & halberds in merchants' shops.

As well as daggers, right? I didn't see a dagger expertise... I guess it's because daggers are thief-exclusive.

you don't need an expertise for daggers since you have the survivor skill assassin's kiss. at max lvl of 5, you'll do double damage once every two strikes (on the average). that's a big one, especially if you have a dagger with enhanced damage (savage, ruthless, merciless, etc.). the only drawback is that recup time for daggers is set at 5. if you can find one with enhanced damage & enhanced speed as well, then you can kiss every monster before sending them back to the depths of hell.

i have observed that gavanariel, the elven merchant in the dark forest, sells very good daggers (aside from bows). it's just a matter of reloading so you can get the mods you want.

There is no Staff Expertise. My partner was looking for it because Wizards are generally too weak to wield much else and still have any melee effectiveness. I think their high damage to requirements ratio is why they didn't see need for a Staff Expertise.

As far as I'm concerned, that is Dagger Expertise. Backstabbing doesn't mean the same as what it does in D&D. In D&D, you literally have to stab them in the back for it to work, a far too difficult prospect for Divine Divinity.

true, it could very well be the dagger expertise for survivors. however, it lacks what all other weapon expertise has: increased speed for every level. but just the same, it still is a very powerful skill as it is.

True, but a Recuperation Time of 5 is still pretty impressive and is less than many other weapons at level 5.
