Guys i want you to know that i was a big fan of larian studios because of divinity 2 the dragon knight saga and i can honestly say now that i am seriously disappointed.Instead of making what people loved you give us isometric view and turn based combat?

You do realize the first 2 Divinity games were isometric view? And the third person view does limit the world interaction compared to the interface of an isometric view?

While I don't have a strong preference between real time combat and turn based (either can be done well or poorly), some people have declared D:OS an instant buy because it will have turn based combat. That should allow more strategic fights, and FWIW, there will not be as many opponents in D:OS as previous Divinity games.

I'll be open to corrections because what follows is purely speculation on my part.

I think Larian is expecting their Divinity 2 audience to go to Dragon Commander while catering to the older fans (the ones who went through Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity) with Divinity Original Sin.

Unless those fans like both the 'older' and 'newer' genres. If you aren't this is a very unique opportunity to try out! I truly believe OS will turn out a most competitve salesproduct compared to DC. I really wonder which one will sell most? But that may just depend on the amount of publicity they got.

I believe D:OS will sell better than DC, but who knows ... ?

Personally I love more the RPG genre than RTS/TBS genre, so D:OS stay now already for a long time on my wishlist on the highest rank !! In fact, at this moment it's the ONLY upcoming game I'm looking for and want to get my hands on, now !! :hihi:

It's true that I'm waiting with great anticipation for OS and DC to be released, 2013 will have several interesting titles come out. Unless you're not open minded toward other genres than rpg.

I for example am looking forward to get my hands on Bioshock Infinite. Say what you want about fps, but Bioshock is a very unique high quality game, intriguing with great storyline and environments.

Also, I saw this post on kickstarter about a 'portal' like game, Magrunner, looks very promising, unfortunatly no release date announced as far as I know.

Perhaps I should give the Deponia series a chance next month, always liked good point-and-click adventure games.

In the past I've played puzzle games, adventure games, a race game, strategy games, .... but simply I LOVE most of all the RPG genre .

But do not missunderstand me: I've nothing against OTHER genres ... they're simply not MY thing !
IF I would swear to destroy ALL games in the world that are NOT RPG, then I'm indeed NOT open minded :hihi: But I don't want to destroy nothing but ... nothing ... so please don't say I'm not open minded wink
I really CAN imagine a FPS can be fun to play ... lucky enough: people are different, otherwise ... o nooo, I darf not think about what will happen IF ... eek

TBH I was a little disappointed when I found out Larian were not making a Divinity 3 as I would like to have seen the dragon knight and Damian's story continued. I prefer 3rd person games but however having played the original Divinity I have got used to it and enjoyed the game.

Both DC and OS look promising - I'd probably buy both but as someone mentioned above a lot of the Divinity 2 fans will go for Dragon Commander where fans of the original Divinity will go for Original Sin. I like to try demos of games if possible rather than not playing them just because I don't like something about it.
OP - I'd recommend at least trying a demo before you put them on the games not to buy list.

I'm betting that Larian's project after DC and OS will be Divinity 3 and it will be a 3rd person interface - the game only known as the 'RPG to dwarf them all'.

I absolutely love turn based RPG's...my sale will offest yours :P

Also very interested in Dragon Commander. I personally think Larian makes great games and these two are some of the more creative and unique games coming out.

Maybe yes, maybe no ... I'm a DKS fan AND I'm a fan of DD ! So ehmmmmmm ... which of the two upcoming games would I start with ? think Hope they come not at the same time on the market ... it can confused me a lot hahaha ... I really love games like DKS (3 dimentional), but since DC isn't a real RPG I prefer D:Original Sin still above Dragon Commander .

No, I remember Lar saying a while back sales of Project D & E (DC and OS) will provide the funding to make their next game which he called the RPG to dwarf them all.

BTW Merlin77 - have you tried Drakan on the PC? It's an old game now & has a few issues with Windows Vista / 7 but if you enjoyed Divinity 2 then you should like it - if you can still find a copy that is.

I loved DKS, 1 and 2 were decent. But I am super ok with DS being turned based. This will be the first coop true turn based game I've played in perhaps forever... or Ali Baba on an Atari 800. I am so pumped for this. People want real DnD in a game, well to me you need true turn and you need coop. Who plays DnD solo? I couldn't applaud their brave move more, to me they get it, they get it in a huge way.

Nope, the next, direct installment/sequel to Divinity series will be the "promised game".

Aha, okay wink
Now so far I'm happy with each game the Larians maked ! smile

Maybe per making DC & D:OS they're trying brand new things out to see how gamers react and so they have "an idea" in which direction they must go to create the Ultimate game to dwarf them all ! wink

Just a "thought" that plop up in my mind grin

Go out and buy youself one of the gazillion almost shooter like RPGs out there which are real-time and in 3D.

You are a fan of the ME series, I guess ?

Well, I understand his point of vue. Divinity 2 was a great change, we moved from an old school isometric hack'n slash to a 3D hack'n slash. and now we move to a turned base strategy game. I can understand that some persons might not like this évolution.

For my part I prefer hack'n slash and dynamics games, but I have experience so far sevrals kind of other games and sevrals really good turned based rpg such as golden sun (that I recommend to every one that loves turn based games and fantasy), grandia 2 or other that I cannot remember.

A simple example for those who thinks that it will not be a good game because it is a turn based game : the Final fantasy... who can said that they are shitty games that did not work?! (even if personnally I never finished one of them)
