That has been mentioned before. In the original release of D2:ED I went through there breaking all the barrels, etc, so never noticed it, but (after reading about it in the forum) played with it a bit in DKS (opened and closed the barrel multiple times quickly, then jumped back and used Explosive Arrows a couple times to take out half the group at once; Splitting Arrows would have really helped had I known it at the time, especially with Way of the Ranger, which I didn't learn until level 40). I was level 16.5 entering Maxos temple, and got to level 17 finishing off the group of a dozen summons (after trying a couple groups of 3 or 4 first)
In the headquarters of one of the flying fortresses there is a puzzle to solve before you can open the door to the inner headquarters. Trying to open that door without the correct solution will spawn opponents in several locations there, which you can use to build up large groups to clear out. In Aleroth you can avoid completing a task with Zandalor to let opponents continually come through portals, but you can not leave once you start, until the quest is done.
If you are playing DKS, original release (PC/Xbox) or the
Developer's Cut version (PC), though, once you get into the Flames of Vengeance section of the game there are several areas where opponents respawn, with much higher experience points than the D2:ED section. If you are playing the original PC release of D2:ED, see
Can Flames of Vengeance be purchased separately? (on Xbox there was no separate release of FoV; it was too large for DLC, as originally planned, and Larian couldn't get a publisher for a retail release).
Welcome to the forum.
