I just bought Divinity II from Amazon.de so that I could get the German version and when I go to update I am getting this infamous little gem:
Couldn't identify the installed version of Divinity II - Ego Draconis. Debug: " dd67e9d19a31ce7106e092a0ba1686e1"
(albeit auf Deutsch)
Before registering with the forums, I have obviously read through reams of posts of people having the same problems. however, I never read nobody offering no solutions. So if there are any solutions to this problem out there I would love to hear them.
I bought the game after liking some things I read, but having checked the performance of the unpatched game i can safely say after a quick 5 minute run-around, with a locked 30 FPS, and horribly jagged animation, that I will never play this game so long as it runs like this.....so the patch is greatly needed.
thx.
I am on windows 7 x64, with a Rig that can practically Max out Crysis 3 (this is not the fault of my hardware).

GOG, Steam, the Larian Vault, etc, have the German version of Divinity 2 Developer's Cut. The retail version of the Divinity Anthology is just in English, but comes with Steam keys for the games. Check out this topic for info on upgrading from D2:ED/FoV/DKS to D2:DC. Did you download the Dragon Knight Saga patch, or the Ego Draconis patch? I found a couple web hits for that debug code, relating to the Ego Draconis patch (and if there is a 30 FPS cap you presumably have DKS). Did you check if there was an option to change or remove the FPS cap (or if there is a nightmare difficulty level)? The download version of DKS should probably be updated already, and the retail version may be, as well. Try emailing support@larian.com, with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this topic, if you haven't done so already.

It was only ~10€. I wouldnt have paid more for it cos I knew I was taking a risk with regards to it performing well. Dunno about the 'nightmare' difficulty level but definitely no option to remove FPS cap. I will try contacting Larian support.

There was no FPS cap in D2:ED, AFAIK. That was introduced in the original release of DKS, and then the option to change or remove it was added in the second DKS patch (along with a higher 'nightmare' difficulty level, since various changes made the game easier).
Include the Securom key from D2:ED when you contact support, and they can provide you with a voucher to get the Developer's Cut version of the game from the Larian Vault. The Developer's Cut is essentially DKS (a remastered D2:ED with the add-on Flames of Vengeance) with an optional 'Developer Mode' cheat window.

This is all very confusing to have so many different versions of the same game. My version came without DRM and with no serial code. There was also no game manual within the DVD box. I notice that in the bottom left corner there is a 'Pyramide Games' logo, so I presume I have a 'budget' version. Hearing now that that D2 ED, D2 DKS, and D2 Directors Cut are all considered 'different' (although when fully upodated content is the same), it doesn't surprise me that so many people are having problems getting these updates to work.

Nah, it's simple.
There is Divinity 2 : Ego Draconis.
Then came out Flame of Vengeance, which is the add-on for Ego Draconis. When the addon came out, larian created Dragon Knight Saga, which is Ego Draconis + Flames of Vengeance (game + addon all in one DVD pack).
Some time ago, they created DKS Developpers Cut, which is Dragon Knight Saga and a couple bonuses.
It's all incremental.

I thought D2:ED at least did a disk check on install? There was no DRM removal patch for D2:ED, anyway (due to contractual issues), but I guess budget re-releases may have dropped the DRM. With the original English retail release, the game could introduce problems if it failed to detect the disk in a drive (high level 'rich bandits' early in the game, error code 42 when trying to save, a very large skill point bonus on reaching level 15, etc). The DRM gets chosen by the publisher, though, so different regions can have different implementations. I would think the game should already be updated with a budget re-release. Not all retail releases had a serial code. In that case, to get an upgrade to D2:DC you can provide a personalized picture of the back of your box (with the barcode clearly visible) instead. Compared to D2:ED + FoV, DKS contains a bunch of (mostly small) changes, additions and balancing tweaks to the original game. D2:DC is pretty much DKS with an optional cheat menu window, added as a bonus for the anthology (see the blog post Hatching the Anthology).
