Where are orcs in the time of Dragon Commander? I mean, we have in DC undeads represented as a Race (not as a phenomena), which i find quite awkward for a Divinity universe, yet we don't have orcs, and they are a fundamental race in original Divine Divinity.

Speaking about this, thing that most concerns me is that Divinity universe with each new game is getting farther and farther from the original concept and setup from DD, and i'm failuring to see some hard connections, some solid cohesive meterial.

Divinity 2 was a great game, but i didn't have strong feeling that i'm in a Divinity universe, there where no other races from DD, Aleroth once a healer village now a capital without any real explanation, whole concept of the world oranization was alomost totally differnet than in DD.

And now we have DC, in far past, and yet we have a 19. century industrial revolution, strong and pure steampunk setup... And in DD we have typical middle-age fantasy setup, without any proof or knowledge of vast civilizations from past.

I hope, in matter of fact, I strongly suggest that you do somewhere on the internet a rich and factfull lore book and a timeline for Divinity Universe, that would help as funs to understand Divinity a lot more, and therefore like it even more smile

Moderators, wrong subforum, please put it into the Dragon Commander subforum.

I remember the FAQ mentioning that there will be some kind of cataclysm that sets everything back in regards to technology. Hopefully this cataclysm will explain why nothing is remembered either.

Here's a link to the Dragon Commander FAQ . Hope this helps.

Q Why is it that in the divinity universe, over time they LOST tech? I mean, in dragon commander they have damn space ships, but in DKS set later on in time, they only have zeppelins?

A Cataclysm - that’s how we fix all our anachronisms. Seriously, we actually struggled with this for quite some time but ended up with something I think that works. I’ll keep the surprise for when we release the visuals that go with this.

Q How well will dragon commander fit in Divinity universe and its timeline?

A It’s long in the past, at the time Maxos was roaming around Rivellon.

In Divinity 2 there was originally going to be an area containing elves and dwarves, but that got cut during development (late enough there wasn't much of an explanation put in the game for their absence, or references to them in other areas, etc).
There was also going to be a swamp (screenshot 588KB), also cut at some point.

Aleroth was built up during the war with the Black Ring, and during the more than 70 years since Divine Divinity.

In real history, there have been lots of times and places where there was virtually no knowledge of past societies and technology. I'm sure Larian can come up with a reasonable explanation for having steampunk elements in DC.

Well consider that Maxos was running about at that time. Perhaps he has something to do with all of that technology.

You know, I hope the game doesn't end with that Cataclysm happening and undoing all our work.

My opinion on endings like that is rather negative, Very uncreative generally and not memorable.

I'm thinking the exact same thing. Whilst it would be very disapointing if that did happen I don't think it would put me off.

OP - I was too wondering why Aleroth became a capital from a healer village in such a short space of time between Divine Divinity and Divinity 2.

Not to mention that in DD Aleroth was in the middle of the plane forest, and in D2 it is on the top of some hill at the see coast!?

I was wondering about that too. I think one reason why the Undead were included was because Larian did want a human love interest, but not an ordinary one. An ordinary human princess would be the love interest everyone gravitated towards, so they made her undead to emphasize the political nature of these marriages. (Is there an Imp princess? I didn't see one or the imp advisor in the wide shot of the advisors + princesses.)

There probably wasn't enough room in the budget for the orcs and the undead. In-game it'll probably be justified as the Orcs being fractured into thousands of small tribes neutral in the war, and without a leader that could speak for the entire race.

I do agree that sometimes it seems like Larian has a hard time keeping the continuity straight, and Divinity 2 was too human-centric.

There is kind-of an explanation for why Aleroth has changed. In the war against Damian 50 years before Divinity 2 began, the struggle between the two demi-gods literally moved mountains and changed the geography. It still doesn't fix all the other strange things about Aleroth like why there are a dozen different ancient ruins underneath it, though.

Check out any small village 50 years after a nearby gold rush. That is what happened to Aleroth when the war with the Black Ring created a great demand for healing potions, and made Aleroth a strategic target in need of protection.

Even in Beyond Divinity swamp was encroaching on the farmlands in Ferol, so Aleroth being surrounded by water isn't unreasonable even without the topography changing magic unleashed during the war.

Surrounded by water, maybe. But take a stroll from the Great Market through the Lanilor Lane gate, or watch the ending cinematic. Aleroth is now REALLY high up.

Maybe that is where the ancient ruins under Aleroth came from. When it was in danger of flooding, surrounding land was moved under the city to raise it up, which brought with it extended areas of the catacombs not accessible in Divine Divinity. Alternately, an attack by the Black Ring meant to destroy the city could have been diverted/deflected with those results.

Personally i always thought they would add orcs in as a dlc if the game was successful enough to justify it. Like after the main game an orcish horde from across the sea is threatening Rivellon which would warrant using all the resources you accrued in the vanilla installment for a final hurrah and an as an epilogue for the evils to come.

We actually did spend quite a lot of time on this so I hope you're going to like the story we tell, even if in Dragon Commander story is told a bit differently than we usually do.

Obviously I don't want to spoil it for you, but I can tell you that Maxos is indeed one of those responsible for bringing technology to Rivellon & I can tell you that he regrets it heavily, so much in fact that at the beginning of the story he asks you to do everything you can to destroy it. There are some on your ship however who don't agree with that idea one bit...

A tad regressive, sounds as sordid as the Dark Age of Technology from Warhammer 40k. The idea of dropping the use of such ingenious techn is simply counter-intuitive to human nature. Probably why the season finale of Battlestar Galactica was so dismal....

Please inform me if I stunned anyone with my nerdiness yet. hahaha

By the by, do we have the option of forming an alternate ending that deviates substantially from the canon vanilla one which connects to the other games or does Dragon Commander have only one ending?

And I would like to say you guys are making a great looking game and I look forward to playing it smile

I'm reasonably sure there will be multiple endings. I vaguely remember Swen talking about it on his blog way back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and Dragon Commander was still restricted to solely aerial units and combat.

Of course there are more endings.
If you join other races and/or be against other races the ending is different, isn't it ?

And maybe, but I don't know, you can even make other/new (political/technogical/... decisions after a time of playing that change the outcome ... ?
