Hi guys,

I have another question and seeing as how the Kickstarter page is so unbelievably popular it seems to have gotten lost there.

I've never played the Divinity games, I understand this is the first turn-based one which is why I'm so interested, I'm sick of Diablo/Skyrim style "action" RPGs, I like my RPGs old school and turn-based like XCOM, thank you very much!

Anyway, what can I expect in terms of class customization? In the videos it seems that both characters are magic users. Will I have the option to make one of my characters a purely melee, shield+sword tank or is magic unavoidable altogether?

Not a deal breaker either way but I'd like to know.

Thanks!

Good topic, I had some questions on that myself.

Currently, you start with 5 in everything, and at char creation you get five free points to spend. You cannot go below five. You get one point per level up. We want one point to feel important. (Same with skills.)

Enemies/NPCs use the same stats, and you should use that knowledge. (The more you fight types of enemies, the more you'll learn about them. If you invest in INT/PERC, the more you'll know immediately.) Enemies will have behaviours/reactions that you'll have to learn and anticipate and react to yourself. There are 7 different damage types atm and you also need to take that into account.

They define multiple secondary stats, but most importantly:
STR = bonus with melee weapons, how much you carry, how far you throw stuff, what you can pick up...
DEX = bonus with ranged weapons and dagger-types
CON = extra vitality, resistance against poison
INT = bonus to magic, defines amount of mana
SPEED = chance of evading/dodging + more distance with one AP
PERC = chance of successful hit + bonus to sight/hearing

You also have action points. You can gain AP by items (maybe) or by story. (Still playing around with this. May get bonus for every x speed, or from a skill...)

At the moment, HP and mana don't regen. That may become a skill at high levels, but now you'll have to eat, use medkit, find a doctor, make or buy or find potions, or rest. (Food doesn't always just give you health though. E.g. meat makes you slow for a while. Fish makes you smarter for a while instead of healing you.)

Currently, there are items (weapons, armor...) that have no requirements, or low/medium/high requirements on STR, or on DEX or on INT. And there are enough weapon types to allow for different builds. E.g. 2 handed axe requires most STR I think, does most damage, has higher chance to crit, but costs more APs than for instance a sword, you cannot wear a shield, and you won't have a lot of points in the other stats. Same for armor. It should allow you to build all kinds of characters.

I agree with the lack of health and mana regen, but I'm not so sure about starting with 5 in all stats (+5 bonus) and not being able to reallocate. There are 6 attributes and 5 free points (and only 1 point gained per level.

It seems like you need to raise multiple stats to make the most out of any build. A melee fighter will need STR to do damage, CON to tank hits/SPD to dodge them, and PER to hit things. Plus, probably also INT if they want to take advantage of the magic systems.

That's at least 3 vital stats, and only 5 points to spend. My concern is that new melee characters will all start out basically the same flat and identical build.

Maybe that could be alleviated if you started out with 5 stat points in everything and 5 to spend, but you could take out 1 point from any/all of your base of 5 attribute points, giving you more flexibility in building your character (at the cost of weakening yourself in some areas.)

Awesome reply Stabbey,

Thank you for all that information! I'm OK with a purely melee tank character having to spend points in both STR and CON as that makes sense; the PERC part is OK too I guess; you could always do 2 STR, 2 CON 1 PERC per level. INT I'm not concerned about since I like my characters to completely stay away from magic for RP purposes; in fact my worry is that it might be impossible to have a traditional melee only sword+shield tank character in this game and is why I started this topic.

Like I said before; it's not a huge deal as the game looks fantastic anyway, but it would definitely enhance my experience exponentially more to be able to play a typical Heavy armored sword and board character smile
