So I was wondering if the camera will allow us to zoom in or even rotate it?

From the kickstarter comments (buried deep by now) -- @renat: at the moment you cannot rotate the camera (you can zoom in/out though). Basically because a lot of our levels are build specifically for the fixed view direction. We have put a lot of effort in creating nice vistas in our regions, which we wouldn't want you to miss out on  . D:oS might actually be a great game to play in 3D, since the levels are very "layered". There is a lot of stuff going on close to the camera as well as far away. Anyway, it's on my nice-to-have list to add stereoscopic rendering the our engine  - Bert.

The zoom option adds immersion to the game but in isometric games the free camera is quite disconcerting. If Larian adds camera rotation it will be nice to leave a button to fix it again to the optimal point of view.

The zoom in/out feature is enough for me. It's always nice to get a closer look of things.

The zoom option adds immersion to the game but in isometric games the fixed camera is quite disconcerting. If Larian adds camera rotation it will be nice to leave a button to fix it again to the optimal point of view. I don't think so. IMO a fixed camera is the best option for an isometric game.

My mistake, I wanted to write FREE, not FIX, hehe. I've just edited.

Probably is better this way; if the levels are designed for a fixed camera angle, common sense dictates that general semblance would benefit from it. Zoom in/ Zoom Out is a cool feature, although normally not very useful for nothing more than looking closely to your characters and that new, awesome piece of armor you have acquired.
Saying this... not that in the videos we have seen so far shows to have this particular problem, but it would be great that camera angle offers a nice view for battles. A good zoom out feature would allow to make plans in the long run, for example.

Diablo 3 style zoom would be just fine. I'm not a fan of rotation.

Keep the game as-is. For them to make such a huge change in development at this stage of the game, we'd lose too much content or have it delayed 2 years. There are many well made games in 3D isometric that most modern games cannot live up to.
Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

zoom is nice (indeed for checking out the detail) but rotation is not needed if it's good designed por fixed camera  which it will be

Divine Divinity didn't have this feature and it was fine. It's simply that this looks similar to NWN rather than to Baldur's Gate so I thought it would have a similar camera maybe too.

At some point during development the artists were told the camera angle would be fixed, so were able to cut corners in designing the environment (not including hidden walls, etc). When this was brought up awhile ago someone from Larian said the camera could probably be modded to allow rotation.

Imo the game looks more similar to Torchlight than to NWN, and the isometric view worked well in Torchlight. Also in NWN you didn't have a party, having to rotate (and tilt, and zoom) your camera to get an optimal view every time you select another party member is seriously tedious (NWN2 is a very good example of this) and it really doesn't add anything to a game that was designed with a fixed isometric view in mind (and I rather that not be changed). The only game that I've seen that managed to combine both to a satisfactory degree was Dragon Age: Origins and I'm pretty sure some serious thought had to go into the level design to make it work well, adding such a system retroactively is probably not feasible.

You could have a party in NWN. The OC however only allowed you have one henchmen and a summon (as well as their summon if they could summon one). Hordes of the Underdark allowed you to have two party members.

Ah, never made it that far, NWN bored me to tears (and calling it quits) halfway through the campaign, so I obviously never looked at the DLC. I obviously can't comment on how well the parties worked in that DLC either.

The last expansion (Hordes of the Underdark) being an epic level campaign and being more party-based was much more fun. If you have NWN + expansions still then I recommend you give HoTU a try. I'd describe it as a mix between Baldur's Gate and Dragon Age: Origins.
