Hello, everyone,

I've come across this fairly new movement :

http://www.recordstoreday.com

Support your local record shops ! Don't go to electronic chain shops !

This movement is supported by a number of well known and lesser known Bands and Musicians, who contribute Exclusive releaaes for this day !

But - and here's the catch - Everything's in Vinyl !
Which can be good and bad at the same time ... Partly depending on how much you like "Vinyl-Sound" and whether you own an decice to play this or not. wink

There are local versions of this home page, too !

Examples are :

http://www.recordstoreday.com.au/
http://www.recordstoreday.co.uk/
http://www.recordstoredaygermany.de/

Wikipedia on it : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_Store_Day

I put my postcode into the search engine and got mostly supermarkets. I remember record shops in the 'good old days' but they have all closed down now and I dumped all my vinyl years ago. Trouble is that most people nowadays including me don't have a dedicated audio system and instead play CD's & MP3's on a DVD player connected to a home cinema system.

I got rid of my seperates technics hi-fi system and its huge speakers because of the room it takes up. The real shame was the system cost a fortune originally and was worthless second hand but I didn't just want to take it to the dump - I ended up giving it to a friend.

However for the real music enthusiasts the websites are a good idea but I can't see that many shops opening up to sell vinyl because of the low demand for it. There was a shop that opened in Leeds, UK near me a few years ago but it closed down after around 4 months of trading. Any new shops would have to be promoted heavily on the website(s). I can see them being popular with DJ's though.

I am far too wedded to physical media to ever go digital. Marks me out as a dinosaur, I have no doubt, but at least I am a happy dinosaur! laugh

I participated there - but I had time only in the late afternoon, as there was already everything interesting sold out ... And later I read in an forum hat someone was already placing the vinyl single I had wanted to buy into Ebay ... Such a shame ...
