Other little question, they said the game was going to be accessible for most laptop. I think it is a great idea that will promote coop multiplayer. But do you know if the game will have "high graphic" options or hd textures, even if it comes after the release ? I couldn't find the answers.

Though you have the choice of low graphics that come with compatability with lower-end studf.. Ofcourse you will have the option for top-notch graphics. Maybe not like Crysis 3.... But enough to amaze people

Also.. Come on.. "Most laptop"?..
Since when did laptops became something weak.. I myself havent used an desktop in about 8 years now and spending 600 euros every 3 years gives you always a laptop thats ableto handle the top of the games if you know what you are doing smile

#playing crysis 3 on max with 50 fps with an 2-year old laptop which costet 650 euros at the time smile

How about the issue on overheating? My laptop overheats 3 hours when playing a game that it could handle. Can you give me a general idea what to buy, what brand to buy and whatnot? My budget is around $900

I don't generally consider laptop weak. It's just due to the issue of overheating. I've been using my laptop for 5 years already, but I'd like to change the games I could play therein.

I'm using desktop to play games most of the time, but I'd like to go mobile.

I never said laptop were bad, I just said that there is a lot of non-gaming laptop, the kind that I have. I can just forget to play crysis 3 on it lol. But I can play some games and it's great to think I'll be able to play D:OS. But I'm thinking about buying a better computer this year and that's why I was asking if there could be some high quality graphics. I don't know if it's easy, cheap etc to implement those so that's why I was asking this.

Hm.. yeah.. overheating depends ALOT on what brand you buy. The problem is i cant really advice anything except for simply looking around your pricerange, look at processors and GPU's .. find out which ones are the best possible within the pricerange and then find a laptop that has both :P
Unless i have several laptops to compare to any direct questions i wouldnt be able to say anything

(do make sure it has an nvidia gpu and i7 cpu (minimal :P) .. people like AMD because of the price but AMD has also an reputation of having very slow driver updating making the fps at games that are less then 3 months old.. weak..)

I myself try to buy from reasonably lesser-known companies that mostly custom-make their laptops. Last one i bought was at a dutch company called BTO ... atm they arent really getting the newer laptops but at the time i bought it, it had all components that a high-end laptop had, but because they bought all pieces seperate and made it theirselfs it was kinda cheap.

heating problems.. yes, i have had heating problems but only during the mid of summer. I solved it by making the feet under my laptop a little bigger so that there is more space underneath my laptop.. aside from that i also have a nice fan on my desk that blows air underneath the laptop :P (also great for cooling down myself)

Atm i dont need it because its still only like 15 degrees here, but since my laptop runs at 150% of what it should (overclocked the shit out of it :P) it might need the fan again once it gets 30 degrees in my room :P

Most laptop overheating issues are caused by household dust building up inside the cooling fan / heatsink. Sometimes this can be removed with compressed air but usually you have to take the laptop in for repair to have it cleaned fully.

I repaired laptops for a large retail company and this was the most common issue - the longer the laptop is used for the worse it gets. Smoking makes the problem 10 times worse as the nicotene causes the dust to stick to it and clog up the air flow through the heatsink. A laptop should not overheat when playing a game it can handle - it's probably a clogged fan. Some laptops have a panel that can be removed underneath to gain access some the motherboard has to be removed. Most high end gaming laptops have the CPU / GPU easily accessible for upgrades and cleaning.

Might be worth seeing if it just needs a clean. If anyone isn't technically minded most local repair shops should clean it out for a small fee. On the other hand it could be a good excuse to buy a new laptop. smile

I wouldn't be able to recommend any particular brand but as someone already suggested go for at least an I7 and as for the GPU either is fine. The AMD's seem to run cooler than the Nvidia cards.

Hmm ... I didn't know you can buy a laptop that is more specialyzed for playing games with (and clean from time to time the dust myself).

Good to know. Thanks for the info Arokh !
I wait to buy a laptop till windows XP isn't supported anymore and go for Windows7 or higher.

A lot gaming laptops are based on a Clevo chassis - Clevo makes barebone laptops unbranded to sell to manfacturers and OEMs. The OEM or manufacturer then fits parts to spec so usually components are easily accessible from a repair point of view that is.

I can also recommend a Clevo-based laptop. My laptop is not really a high end one, but having grabbed a promotion, the resulting configuration can keep up with most recently launched games in terms of performance. And you do not pay for a brand, which is a big plus grin

Don't know how easy it is to upgrade or replace components on Clevo laptops, but the chassis is both easy to open and to clean (if you have a minimum of hardware knowledge).

Allowing the user to play with a handful of graphical options matters more to me than having the best graphics ever seen on PC. Having presets or a "basic" interface is okay, as graphical options can get a bit technical and overwhelming for normal users. But, please, let me tune down bloom and/or motion blur if I want to, for example. I have stopped playing some games due to this...

When you buy a laptop, go to a good shop (like Tones) and explain what it is you want your machine to do. They'll help you configure something great within the limitations of your budget (if you have any wink ).

And once you have a shiny new laptop, be sure to check out Dragon Commander too! Obviously I'm biased, but I think it'll be a really cool game!
And I have a feeling you'll definitely like it. horsey

O you're great ! up
Many thanks Macbeth ... never heart of "Tones" before ... I gonna check their website soon, probably very soon laugh !

PS: And if that laptop can also handle Dragon Commander (I simply can choose a laptop that CAN run DC :hihi: ), of course I wish to play that game to grey too ! biggrin

I believe DC will have so many humour in dialogs and funny NPC's too ! The same for all Larian games, no doubt about it !! claphands

thankyou

You're welcome! wave

I asked one of the programmers by the way, and he said that if a laptop can comfortably run DOS it should be able to handle DC smoothly as well.

Dragon Commander has some great characters and character development - the actors who played them really enjoyed bringing them to life. You'll love it! smile

Are the recommended system requirements for both games already known, or is it still too early to be sure and commit to some numbers? hehe

It's too early to give the exact numbers (I think). All in due time though ... wink

Hmm.. looking at the minimal requirements GOG expects i should be able to play DC. I might upgrade some stuff for better performance though... i assume DC will require better hardware then DOS.
Atm ive got an gt555m running at 140% and an i7-2630QM core running at 2.7 ghz .. i think it will be fine but i might just upgrade just for the sake of fps and good graphical quality..
