I played only the demo but if I could find it arround me, I would've bought it right away. It's like morrowind with better graphics but underground. Well, people claim it's like Ultima Underground. The cool things are: - It's in first person mode - It's like an adventure game (Myst, maybe) - But it's also a cool RPG - And a great one - And you can make your own lunch (take a bit of dough, add water, make a doughball and bake it by a fire and voila! You get bread! You can also cook fish, pork, chicken... goblins maybe...) - The game has Black and White magic system (you need to trace several runes with your mouse) but it can store 3 precasted spells if you fear to get ambushed. It's a great game, after all, shame I cannot find it in stores. Since I live in North America, we don't have many european games.

There is a small tutorial at the beginning, that explains everything very well. As you discover new 'abilities' you get a tip on how to use them. And you can find it all back in you journal.
Its also fun to make your own weapons--> i mean upgrade them <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> A bit like charms in DD.
The spell system took me a bit to figure out and get to know. But its worth it!! You have to collect runes who have a certain ability and you have to draw them yourself to use it. It hard to say, you have to see it.
The story is also very intreging.
I'd say buy and play my friend!

Why everyone wants Quicksave? It makes the game ridiculously easy.

can you imagine playing for a couple of hours, thinking "oh yeah, should be no problem here, i'll just..... OH!! WTF??....don't tell me i forgot to save....awww!!! jeesus!!... ...time to start over...... oh well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />...just grin and bear it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" /> ya right!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> after that happens a few times my desire to play that game...dwindles fast.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> , especially if i have to start over again. quicksave is good <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> for people like me who think that ...just one more enemy...or one more step...or i'll just take a quick look.... it's just there for you to use if you want...it's not a forced quicksave.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I'm happy with check-point saving. It makes you consider things more carefully. Just so long as they're not too far apart.

I think the option should always be there. The checkpoint games I hate are ones that only save after you complete a whole level. Grrr. One failure and you have to do the whole damn thing again.
Arx Fatalis is great. A quirky kind of game but well done, Im looking forward to what the team do with Arx 2.
I will call you "Squishy", and you will be my squishy! OW! BAD SQUISHY!

I was playing Divine Divinity today. I restarted the game with a Magician. I entered this room surrounded by several skeletons and after a while I had 8 hitpoints left when I saw this Skeletal Conjuger. I though I could face him. I started hitting him with my metheors then when he aproached, I decided it's a good time to use Restoration. I started rightclicking... after several seconds I saw it made no effect. After a second the Conjuguer struck me and I fell. When I looked at my mana bar, I saw why Restoration didn't work... NO MORE MANA! And I had sound turned off so even if my hero shouted at me that he had no mana, I couldn't hear the poor bugger. Oh well, now I have a female survivor... Still, quicksaves make the game too easy. I prefer good, old normal saves. Though I can't stand savepoints: I am playing the game then I have to go but if I go now, the hour I spent on killing monsters and doing quests will be spent in vain as the save point is many worlds/maps/corridors/towns away.

*looks sour* I think save-points belong only to Japanese games, or at least console games. Any PC game that requires save-points should be shot in the kneecap and boiled in a vat of acid, period.

NO, don't be such a silly sausage <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/exclamation.gif" alt="" /> It's just a good thing to have with a game, it's down to individuals wether to use it or not in't it. Hopefully AF has it.

Except for ports. Other than that, I agree. It's just a good thing to have with a game, it's down to individuals wether to use it or not in't it. Hopefully AF has it. But it looks like it's the only thing which matter from your Point of view! So AF has quick save yeh? I downloaded the demo, but I did not like the fact that you need to trace runes with your mouse to cast spells at all. This really turned me off from buying the game. Anyone know if this can be bypased or disabled? FYI: Regarding autosave - I posted this a while back but here it is again for those who missed it: Script to auto quicksave and show special objects I have been using this script for about 3 years now to have it automatically autosave for me in games that do not have this feature (and send key presses to the active game window). You only have to make minor modifications to it to work with almost any game.

Friend, You can pre-cast spells before venturing into the heat of combat. I agree it can be annoying sometimes (although I was never annoyed <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />). You can pre-cast up to 3 spells, I don't remember how, though.

Use stealth and magic mode together <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> It took me a while to get all those ruins symbols under control. It is a bit hard to make spells while fighting. But it is doable.

Hmmm... A bit expensive, I'd say. At least it's from UK, no? Anyway, congrats, Spick, the game's great.
