I noticed in the FAQ that there is Friendly Fire in the game. Is it possible to turn this off for those who do not desire this much "realism" during combat?

Thanks!

No, not AFAIK, but you can avoid using spells/attacks with an area effect close to party members.

Maybe there will be either a mod or something that can do that. But the thing is that the friendly fire is one of the big things that make the combat so tactical :P

A lower difficulty setting might half the damage taken from friendly fire. We don't really know...yet.

I'm looking forward to talking with my friend on skype while playing this, then saying long live the king and throwing a fireball his way. Killing him.

Friendly fire adds to the tactical nature of the combat. However it would be nice if there was a way to see the area of effect of a spell before you cast it, while hovering over the ground. Maybe they plan to add this but isn't in the game yet. It's a feature that makes the combat more tactical and less random. If the area of effect is random for some spells then it could be represented for example with 2 circles with the same center, representing the minimun and maximun possible range. Such elements of chance aren't necessarily bad but good turn based combat needs to give good feedback.
