I'm not sure this will be possible, if only because programming varying levels of AI is not fun, but I'd like to see distinct difficulty settings for the campaign map and the RTS mode. Personally I'd want to set it to difficult strategy map, easy real time.

Of course if they are linked together I could shore up my weakness as an RTS player by getting into a good overall position, but it's individually frustrating to always get the worse of individual confrontations, and be overly tempted to autoresolve any important or close ones.

Having a custom difficulty option would be great. Having separate sliders for intelligence and cheating would also be nice.

+1 for cheating

And I agree with the two sliders, kinda like they did it in Mount and blade

While I'm all for options is a separate slider for cheating worth bothering with? Would anyone have the AI set to cheat if they hadn't increased its intelligence to maximum? The only thing I can see is if there were options to control HOW it cheats.

Actions Per Minute: There are options from 10APM to unlimited APM.
Simultaneous Dragon Control: The AI controls the dragon while also controlling its army.
Maphack: The AI can see what you are doing inside Fog of War.
Maphack 2: You can see what the AI is doing inside Fog of War.
Extra resources: You can set this to give you or the AI a bonus to resource in the RTS.
Global resources: The AI gets more resources in the game map.
More powerful units: Give a percentage attack/defence bonus to the AIs units or your units.

No idea if these are possible without gutting the game code, but if they are held as constants or easily accessible in the code it would be perfect.
