Hello folks,

There are some ideas inmy mind about multiplayer. But before I would like to know what is planned for multiplayer.

So far I know that you can play with a second player the two main chracters together.

I presume when you play alone that the second alt is runas NPC, will you have to play alone or will be the second alt be optional as AI partner?

Besides the single and/or double solution, are there any plans to allow groups of online players like e.g. four players like by some classic paper rpg sized group?
As you will introduce henchmen into the game I am sure a group of more then two players should be possible.
Even groups are not part of the single player campaign, allowing groups in multiplayer would add to later player designed adventures if they want to create some bigger scale adventures.
In case a player can't find enough players for such mods he could use henchmen/companions instead to fill the ranks.

I am curious to hear some feedback about those thoughts.
Danke smile

In single player you control both of the main characters yourself, as well as any henchmen hired (one per main character at a time allowed in the party; others can be sent to wait in your homestead on the shelter plane at the end of time). You can switch back and forth between any character, and stay in a group or split up your party.
In terms of conversations, the non-lead character can be set to always agree, answer as a specific personality or answer randomly, or you can choose the dialog options for both characters (if both are close enough to be involved).

Up to 4 players are supported for multi-player in mods. Larian wanted to focus on the two main characters in the main campaign, so didn't write a ton a dialog for them, so that a person controlling them could participate in conversations. The editor, however, supports dialog for henchmen. Meeting the henchmen stretch goal means they will have dialog, but not to an extent a person could roleplay them as they wished.

Thank you for the fast reply and shedding some light on this. I remember how Swen mentioned in some presentation that you can send even one of your two alts away and explore with just one as the other collects dust in the meantime.

If that is true, if I remembered that correctly, enemies I guess scale to whatever strength you have, single+henchman, etc. ?

So the very possible max in a group would be 4 players and 4 henchmen?

Sorry if I ask you holes into your belly but I want to make sure I get a clear understanding of the concept before I can make suggestions.

I love how you can pre-select the reaction of the second alt and how you can change the team strength at any time, also that you can create dialog for henchmen smile
For obvious reasons you cannot make their dialog as rich as you can never guess all possible reactions ahead.

Enemies do not scale to your number/level, and the game will be balanced for a party of at least 2. Solo play is possible (the entire party only has to be together when switching map areas), but will be difficult.

The current max number of players is 4, with a max of 6 characters in the party (2 main characters, 2 henchmen/companions and 2 summons).

Aah, I see now.
So multiplayer ever includes the two main characters which can be handled by two players as the other two players are choosing some henchmen/companion roles (from a pool I presume?).
The two summons are of course controlled by those who play our two source main characters, got it smile

Actually, I love that the game does nto scale as I do love a challenge as hardcore player and it adds to replay value trying it alone smile
Scaling can be nice but also can water down a game as it doesn't touch well the difficult level most of the time.

Last question in connection with the editor (and NOT Dos):
Will we be able to make 'just' new mods for the existing two alts or can we create with the editor also mods for one to multiple characters which can pre-generated for the mod (like in the classic DD) and/or even being customized?
That way we could even create an adventure as a weresheep on the loose wink

Multiplayer will support the player amount, as long as it is modded in. That was part of a big question about the mod tools during the Reddit AMA. Of course, the dialogue is meant for just the 2 main characters - either you playing single player and controlling both, or playing multiplayer and you and a friend controlling one main character. A mod can add more player support for multiplayer, but they might need to change the dialogue around to make it sound like there are more then 2 people. Would be weird to have a mod with 4 players, and have text say something like 'And you 2 will be...'.

Thanks for clearing this.
My question about more then two players was just aimed exclusively at the editor for making own mods and not the original single/mp capmpaign as I am aware of the problem of dialog when you have a varying numbers of people.
I was just curious to see if the editor later will allow to create all kind of character variations like e.g. a survivor (like from DD), a weresheep, a Volkswagen or the god knows what people can come up with for own adventures.

Thanks all for the swift replies.

One of the kickstarter comments mentioned a floating brain henchmen (as a test, not necessarily to be in the game).

The weresheep have a page of kickstarter dev quotes, including a section on the 'Editor & Modding'.
