Coming straight off several aborted attempts to get into Company of Heroes 2, I really appreciate a couple of things on the RTS side of things here:

- clean, concise graphics. Maps feel solid and look great. I think Larian got this just right. Zooming about the landscape, panning and whipping the camera around feels responsive and fun.

- it runs well. Got a modest system and the thing never really dips below 50 odd fps, settings maxed (can't get FRAPS going so am guessing here). Load times are fast, too.

It's all lightweight but it all works. It's damn good fun. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the game melds with this here RTS part. Suspect will be ace.

Incidentally, decided not to post this under other threads dealing with beta impressions as I think it's good to have genuinely appreciative topics as posts on their own.

So yeah, love it so far. Cheers Larian!

Yeah, a topic for all the good things is a pretty good idea.

  • I also appreciate how well the game runs. My computer is not much higher than the minimum specs, but it's running with all the features turned on. I've only experienced slowdown a handful of times in the 20 or so hours I've played, and I attribute that to my computer.
  • The netcode is also solid. I played games hosted in Belgium and couldn't tell.
  • Controlling the Dragon is responsive and intuitive.
  • The music is fantastic, as is usual for Kirill.
