Different take on the crashing, but everytime I finish a battle and the victory appears on screen shortly after that the game crashes and I get an error, Specifically a

Microsoft Visual c++ Runtime Library.
Runtime error!
Program...dragon commander\shipping\dcApp.exe
This Application has Requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team for more information.

I've tried turning different options on/off settings all the way down, checked to make sure my graphics card has the latest update but still it... well crashes. (Game runs fine on high even Ultra with the odd hiccup, Plus you'd think if it was gonna crash it would do it during the loading or the actual match.)

System: XP, 4GB ram, Pentium(R) Dual-core E6500 @ 2.93GHz (2 cpus) Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB (Did I do that right? Probably not)

Edit: I have tried un-installing and re-installing as well

Same problem is discussed here. I've had the runtime error pop up though only once.

Unless I'm mistaken isn't that thread about the game crashing before the skirmish/battle begins?! My problem is about the game crashing and getting a runtime error after the skirmish/battle finishes and the victory message appears. Unless I'm missing something from that thread.

Can you avoid the error by loosing? Unlikely, but you did specify the error was after Victory appeared.

Did you try re-installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, from the folder

..\steamapps\common\dragon commander\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2008\

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs before starting the game?

Have you tried lowering the resolution, or changing it to match the desktop resolution if it isn't already? Did you lower / change the graphics options? You'd think if that were a problem it would be entering combat, though.

Did you check for Windows updates, graphics drivers, etc?

Did you try any general crash suggestions in the topic above?

There should hopefully be another beta later today, so that may resolve the problem.

Including the things from my first post, I've made sure I had the latest Graphics drivers as well as the latest Windows updates, Disabled non essential programs. (At least I'm certain I did.) I've lost and got the defeat screen. I've tried launching the game directly from the .EXE.

I've tried re-installing the microsof Visual c++ Runtime Library (I assume the vcredist_x86 file) Which brings up the point everytime I launch the game I get the performing first time running/setup thing appears and it apparently keeps installing it, (The vc redist package file.) doesn't happen when I launch directly from the .EXE.

Anyways the game still crashes after each battle with the Microsoft Visual c++ runtime library error. (Still makes no sense why after? Why not before or during?! Strange...

Yes, vcredist_x86.exe is the right one to install for XP (or 32 bit versions of 7/8).

You shouldn't be getting the installation every time you start the game. Try uninstalling the VC++ runtime files from the Control Panel 'Add or Remove Programs' applet, reboot, shutdown all non-essential applications and try installing it again as administrator.

An old topic elsewhere recommended the program 'Windows Clear up Utility' to make sure vcredist_x86.exe was completely removed before reinstalling, but MS has replaced it with the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter, which you could try if a normal uninstall/reinstall doesn't help.

If you haven't done so already, try emailing support@larian.com, with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this topic.

Which one/s would I need to uninstall? Since I've got a few 2005 ones, a few 2008 and a 2010. Want to make certain I un-install the correct thing.

Anyways the latest patch didn't fix it. (Unfortunately)

Anyways again, thanks for the help so far.

Looking at the install dates on my system, Dragon Commander appears to have installed v9.0.30729.6161. In 64 bit Win 7 I have the 32 and 64 bit version of that installed, a slightly earlier 2008 version (32 bit), one 2005 version, and one 2010 version (32 and 64 bit).

Ok, I tried un-installing and then re-installing the microsoft Visual c++ Runtime Library but the game still crashes after each battle. (Though it did get rid of the performing first time setup thing)

I tried a few games with the A.I. set to none and rushed them and defeated them as quickly as possible and the game didn't crash, then I tried a few games with the A.I. set to none again but waited a while and then defeated them and the game crashed with the same runtime error... strange. Wouldn't be some kind of memory leak would it?

If it is a memory leak, playing the game at a lower resolution or graphics settings might give you more time to defeat the AI before it gives an error.

I'm not sure what the game would be doing post victory that would depend on the time taken to win... I emailed support, anyway.

Did you send in feedback after crashing, or after winning quickly and exiting?

This should be fixed in the next beta.

Anyways good to hear that it'll probably be fixed next beta and again thanks for the help.
