I really want to like this game, I am trying very hard to learn what to do however I have played about 7 games so far against easy ai and I am getting my face ripped off and force fed to me. I don't know if I'm good enough at multitasking in video games to coordinate this fast real time, I am wondering if I cannot grasp the game before launch if Larian would refund my money or if I have just spent 40 bucks on a game I cant play.

If you are completely hopeless at the RTS part, you can always decide to just autoresolve during the campaign. But yeah you'll miss out on a major part of the game smirk

And the chance to better influence the battle in your favour on even odds.

Also, I left you some advice on how to try and go about things in your other thread. Have you tried any of that?

Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

If you pre-ordered from the Larian Vault, send an email to support@larian.com.

However, balance and game speed will be adjusted as the beta progresses. You can set the enemy AI to 'None' to get a feel for the game mechanics and controls without any time constraints.

EDIT: The next beta will by default have a slower game pace, and include other enhancements (see here).

There are a few gameplay videos, etc, that could help give you an idea of what to do, and some tips scatter about, like here or your other topic.

Let's Try Divinity: Dragon Commander - Single Player Campaign (20 min)

Also, like Watser said, in the single player campaign modes you can auto-resolve battles, either sending in units alone or with a general of your choice (each have different strengths and weaknesses and will influence the chance of winning particular battles).

After the latest patch the beta has been slowed down a fair bit which makes things a lot easier to handle if you aren't a Starcraft vet. Tweaks have been made that emphasise the importance of the campaign map as well, so if you are good at TBS you should find the battles themselves much easier. If you can and haven't already give it another try.

Rack,

Before you consider the refund request, please read the updated blog that the owner put out explaining things.

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

I don't think Rack has any issues with the game.

I think it feels, ooh about a month from being finished but other than that you're right Kein. I was trying to reassure Hagbag that progress is being made at a nice pace the latest patch really is great.

You know I will be perfectly honest here. I'm not totally in love with all of Larian games (while not their favorite I absolutely loved DKS; but I only found DD above average). However over the years they have been extremely helpful and responsive which is why I'm willing to buy DC even though the RTS portion is not exactly the sort of the sort of game I like (though to be honest by the time it is fully tweaked I might feel differently).
-
I didn't mean to go this path but if I were designing a game like DC (for myself; which no one else might like) I would take one of two paths:
A bit closer to King Arthur/total war (i.e, drop the base building during teh rts potiion; which I really dislike in DC ) or (my prefered) some sort of hybrid TBS (think age of wonder shadow magic). In fact the later combat if done correctly for DC setting would be paradise (for myself - though I'm not sure anyone else would enjoy it).
-
I'm not able to play this week so I haven't seen how the recent changes have changed the game - I hear they have slowed things down (which for me would be a big plus) but when I did play last week the mechanics felt wrong - they felt too twitchy - which I know a lot of people like (just not me). I raelly want to emphasize that when it comes to a game of this nature there is a wide spread of interest and likes/dislike and it is very difficult to find a middle ground that everyone will enjoy. In fact (as a developer -which I am not) the danger is you find a middle ground that alienates everyone.
-
Anyway I did get a bit off topic but yea I do agree that Larian (when I saw Larian - often it was Swen who responded to my early emails/posts; though more recently it is mostly raze who responds to posts) is one of the most responsive studio I have contacted. In fact my concern is that if they come too successful (selfish concern) they will become less responsive out of necessity (too many customers but only the same number of hours).
-
Sorry for rambling.

Hi Meme!

You're spot on about the time problem - it's made even worse by the amount of channels on which communication happens nowadays (Kickstarter, facebook, twitter, blog, forums not to mention the horror of my mailbox ) but I do tend to still read most of what's addressed to us/me (not everything, that's just not possible anymore) and for sure, I wished I had time to answer to everything.

Regarding the custom tailored version of the game you're looking for - try it out closer to release and let us know what you think then. I think the options/features you need to make DC fit your taste might potentially be in there.

Cheers

Swen

Yea. I was planning on playing through the entire beta but as situation changed I can't play for a week or two and then will have limited time between travel but will definitely comment on changes if time permits for sufficient play time. I have to admit that historically I've never been very good at rts (starcraft, rise of nation, total war, ...) though good enough to play through campaign. I just never really learn to optimize troupe mix and tend to be a wee bit slower esp compared to 20 years ago.
