So, i have played DC for 11 hours so far and while the game promises to be fantastic, there is one thing that i think really needs changing: the Hotkeys in RTS.

In short, i would like the option to change all the Shortcuts to "Grid" as it is called in Starcraft II, meaning that the button in the left top corner will always have the Hotkey Q, the next to the right W, than E and so on.

Being able to freely choose every Hotkey, especially the attack-move would also be nice. I really mess up in Starcraft when i play it after Dragon Commander because I'm pressing all the wrong buttons. wink

In conclusion, i think a Hotkey menu just like the one in Starcraft II would be really awesome, please consider implementing that.

Greetings,
Kaptnblaubar

No, at least not with that reasoning. These are two different games, and DC is free to do things its own way. You can remap your key bindings as you wish from the options and that should be sufficient.

Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

I don't think he's being that unreasonable. He can remap a lot of the keys true, but the production and unit ability hotkeys are not remappable as far as I know. Some people prefer the grid system. I'm not one of them myself. but I can understand their point of view.

That said, it's not that urgent an issue.

I think as well than EVERY single key should be remappable. Flexibility is always a good thing which can be easily achieved and really improves the experience people could have with the game (think alone for left handed people....)

I can think of no RTSs that allow remapping of the production hotkeys. Even in SC2 SCVs (s) Probes SCVs (s or e? I never play protoss)) and Drones (d) have differing hotkeys. But no complaints. Every title uses it's own production hotkeys. Why the heck are supply depots (s) and Pylons (e) and Overlords on different keys when those to have effectively the same function and spot on the UI? It just the way the Devs wanted it to be. No remapping allowed.

Jumping between RTSs does mess you up. Especially RTSs with very different dynamics. Base-builder (SC2) vs set-structures and hero (Dragon Commander).

That being said, flexability is good. Alternatively, assuming you are a gamer, there is hardware and software out theree thats lets you remap a keyboard for games that don't remap. I can set up macron on middle mouse button, and the Home key queue a dozen zerglings (Hatcheries on 1>s>z>z>z>z>z>z). I don't do that but it's really easy to create profiles for you input devices if you want.

Don't use macros, it's normally a bannable offense.

And yeah, more advanced keyboard let you configure certain keys up to keyboard layouts. But not everybody uses/has those.

Muscle memory is bad at multitasking.

In SC2, you can actually choose your Hotkeys completely free, or choose some predefined version, like the "Grid", which also equalizes every Race, which i think is a very important feature.

Of course they should do things their way. But that doesn't mean they can't take a look at a well working System from another game and implement it in order to make their game better.

For some it might not be an important issue but i play a lot with Hotkeys and their current System is not very appealing to me.

I don't like to use makros, as i feel they give you an unfair advantage over the other players.

Yes macros are unfair. The point was that you can rebind your keyboard itself with a 3rd party program, if a game client doesn't allow keybinds. I do this all the time with old flight sims to make my arrow keys be ; . ' / instead of up down left right (aileron/rudder trim instead of the default pitch/roll)
So if you reallly want yo have troops on r, you could rebind your keyboard to have the R key input a T. or whatever.

Just an option if Larian can't get fully customizable hot-buttons.
