I know you get a very good bow from the guy in the elven village after you saved his daughter. Dont know if thats the one you mean though.

You can also get the Bow of Hiffen (sp?) from him after part of the Boratus quest, which is one of the few bows in the game that can have a charm quality.

Have you met an enchanted boar (cutscene)? He'll flag Boratus' house for you - want more spoilers?

aha! ya, killed that mage in his house with my char before i messed my game up and had to revert to an earlier save. hadnt cured the animals though. guess i needed to get that done 1st. i remember talking to the dwarven cleric but he never mentioned the grail. isnt he suposed to give the quest?

Kiya; I knew it was something like that.

When you kill Boratus, he drops a key to the chest in the south west room of the cellar. A book in the chest describes how to cure the animals, after which you should be able to talk to the priest about the grail / holy water.

Joliekiller: I know that was the one you were referring to; Arnlof asked about the bow you mentioned and said he bought a good bow there. My 'also' was meant as an addition to Arnlof's post, not yours.

Arnlof: In the unlikely event you run into the same problem again, and do not have a save before then to try re-killing Boratus, there is a fix to get the book;

Dear Raze
I think I should mention that the Bow of Hilfin is rather a special gift that no one can buy even though its statistics could randomly be bad. OTOH a class of composite bows known as Elven bows are quite rare but possible to have randomly dropped from Orcish heavy crossbow archers within the main camp.
I did complain before that I could never buy such a bow from Gavanariel because the Elven Lord told me that I could but he lied.

I was even under the impression that they do not exist in the game but they do.

If only that random item generator was a bit under control, playing the game could have been a lot more interesting. It is good that Lar already took notice of this problem.

Cheers.

He must drop the key, but most probably, your location, the wolves and Boratus are critical to the final position of the key, which could be hidden. So you must use the ALT key to find it or sweep the back of the walls with your cursor until a popup text says xxxxx key I think it was sapphire but it could be platinum or composite, I can hardly remember such a minor info.
I hope you still keep the saved game.

Cheers.

nope, there was no key and he was as dead as he can get. i went back several times looking. i always use alt when looking for something but thanks for the sugestion. this happened just once. i'm hoping it was a fluke. maybe it dropped in a wall or something, but it wasnt there. oh, in response to killing him again, how am i suposed to do that without a saved game to fall back on? by the time i realised i absolutly had to have the scroll, i had saved over it several times, lol.

I agree, that is one of the nasty bugs in the game, when an item falls under a wall there is no way you can get it but you can see that it is there. Another very strange possibility but quite probable, is that the key fell right into your inventory if you were engaged with him in battle and standing right next to him. Since you never tried to open the locked chest then you would never have known that you had the right key with you all time. Later on in the game you may wonder about some extra keys you have. This is yet another suggestion we made Larian Studios as to tag the keys to make them make more sense.

Cheers.

very good point indeed,
and it does happen quite frequently,
items i thought had disappeared, had really turned up there...

Hope, it can help in your case? But it's easier to take Raze's lost items file, Arnlof

this is how the key looks like - I know from some gamers NOT letting out the wolves first to attack Boratus having this problem with a missing key.
