No, and do you know why?

EDIT: Okay, maybe that was a bit harsh. The answer is that there is no benefit to working on cards now, before the game's release. You can only release the game and make a first impression once. Cards can come out any time at all afterwards.

Answer: If Dragon Commander priorities were listed on a scale, with 0 being the lowest priority, and 100 being the highest priority, Working on Trading cards would be a -263. Giving the official word on trading cards would be somewhat below that.

It could, I know of people who do buy games for the cards, but they tended to be cheap indy $5-$10 impulse buys. The segment of people who will pay $40 just because the game has cards is probably much, much lower.

Larian seems to be much more interested in making quality games that create loyal fans and customers. They way they do that is to focus on the game's quality. They don't have a huge team. Trading cards are nice and all, but spending that dwindling amount of pre-release time left on polishing and tweaking the game will probably earn more fans and better reviews than working on some shiny cards.

My point is that there's no rush to make cards now. The people who are interested enough with cards to buy games just for having them are watching the Trading Card Group announcements like a hawk. Cards could come out a week after the release date and be just as effective at attracting people as they would on day 1.

Don't misinterpret your own opinion for the common sense or Larian's opinion.....

Personally, I really like the trading cards, especially collecting them for the games I like most. So the very little effort to make these cards (the templates are already delivered by Valve) on basis of existing concept art would be very appreciated.

He's saying that the importance of designing trading cards now is very very very unimportant compared to tasklist at hand before release.
I don't really think that's an opinion, more like common sense

Exactly this. I probably was being a bit too harsh, though. Sorry about that.

You can only release the game and make a first impression once. Cards can come out any time at all afterwards. I probably would indeed collect a full set of cards for this game, instead of selling them like I do the others.

The type of person who cares about these cards is already following the cards closely and will notice when cards come out. I don't think the amount of people who would pay $40 for the sole reason that a game has cards is very large, but those who exist are already following the cards.

There is no good reason to spend the dwindling pre-release time working on cards, when they could just as easily be done post-release.

well yeah obviously if working on the cards means the game is not released in a complete state or something then yeah the cards should be postponed

But anyway just hoping Larian will be looking into this (or maybe they already have) and implementing them as soon as they have the resources to

I be damned, we got trading cards.
32 new games were added, including DC (and a lot of other small awesome games like Eversion)

This is probably one of the few games in which I'll actually craft the badge.

It was indeed low on the priority list, but I dragged a 2D artist over to have a quick look. When you have lots of concept art lying around, it doesn't take that long smile

Well you collect a full set of cards from the game (usually there's like 8 of them) and you get a badge and a special smiley you can use or something

While you are playing the game, cards will start get added to your inventory at random, up to half of set (so for example, four cards out of eight).

The other four you will need to trade for or buy to complete the set

Or if you are not interested in the whole cards thing, you can just sell them on the steam market

And you get XP for every badge you forge (100XP)which will increase your Steam level. A bigger Steam level means that you have more options to adjust your Steam profile and that you can have more Steam friends (+5 for each level).... wink

And for each forged badge you also get a cutting of price for a random Steam game. smile
