I'm not a huge fan of Ophelia's guilt-trip-inducing backstory. It's pretty much saying "Pick someone else and you'll condemn her to death. You jerk."
I'm pretty sure all of the princesses will suffer from or have to deal with their own personal dilemmas if you do not pick them and help them out. Officially, as Commander and Emperor you must make the choice that helps your soldiers and your people see another day. Unofficially, you should make the decision you want to stick with. I am all for Camilla, like I said earlier - as dragon knights we ourselves are covered in scales and claws half the time anyways And a strong law-oriented Queen sounds like the perfect thing for an empire.

I'm a little worried about some of these characters being a little too much like one-dimensional caricatures. Well ... the way they are described on the website serves to tease their storylines and kind of highlight what they're all about, but when you have more extended interaction with them, you'll find they actually aren't that one dimensional. Or at least I hope that'll be your experience. The politicians especially, represent a 'type' of sorts - that is true - but not to a fault. The rough guideline that states something along the lines of 'dwarves are ultra capitalists', 'elves are green commies', 'lizards are libertarians', etc., works well to keep in mind on which side of any given debate they'd stand, but the guideline only goes so far. Sometimes they'll have opinions about subjects that will probably surprise you. Those will be the ones that deviate from the stereotype, but fit the character rather than what he or she represents (or is supposed to represent). As for princesses and generals, their storylines are much more personal. I'm not a huge fan of Ophelia's guilt-trip-inducing backstory. It's pretty much saying "Pick someone else and you'll condemn her to death. You jerk." That's not quite how it's presented in-game. I like the Shakespearean-themed naming of the councillors (particularly Yorrick ). Aha! A fan of the Bard! I commend you, milady!
I am in blood Stepp'd in so far, that, should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o'er.

Glad to hear it, Macbeth. I have only seen tiny snippets from youtube previews, of the first chapter, so it's not a surprise that characters will have more depth once you get deeper into the story. I hope that somewhere inside, even Yorrick has a tolerable side.
I am also glad to hear that Ophelia's story will be presented differently.

You are the commander on your ship and an emperor, who says you can't practice polygamy?

I hope that somewhere inside, even Yorrick has a tolerable side. What are you on about, I find Yorrick very tolerable Last 2 characters added today: Maxos and Grumio.

They probably don't care to make an offer.

Why are there no imp princesses? She blew up in an accident on the way to the Raven - it is not polite to talk about all that right now... too soon.

Yeah, but you get to turn her into a cyborg-undead-princess. What can ever be cooler than that ? On another matter, I like the lizard princess face better on the website than what I saw before. She looks less human

Extremism aside, I question the apparent policy of making the Councillors and Generals as unlikable as you have made them. I have watched a number of "Let's Play"s of the beta Campaign on YouTube, and I can say with relative certainty that you have made a good job of making me loathe every single one of them, thus far. They're all utterly unsympathetic.
Yorric: Bigot.
Catherine: Bigot.
Edmund: Bigot.
Fastaff: Asshole.
Trinculo: Asshole.
Scarlett: Dumbass.
Henry: Dumbass.
That leaves the princesses and Prospera, who haven't been introduced yet, Grumio and Maxos, who are largely non-characters, and Oberon, who I thus far haven't heard much from. Hopefully those characters can turn out to be comparatively likable and sympathetic, because I firmly believe it is sorely needed at this point. Making the player hate his or her immediate companions is in my opinion not a very good recipe for a pleasant gameplay experience.
These characters aren't even the good kind of unlikable - that is to say, people whom you would do your best to avoid in real life, but makes for a thoroughly enjoyable screen-presence in a game/movie/book - They're just unlikable-unlikable. From the second they enter the screen to the second they leave, you just want to punch them in the face until they stop breathing.
I take from your comments that you apparently intend for them to go through little character arcs in order to become more rounded, or something. This is good, although you need to pull of some serious storytelling in order to save some of these characters. I can't even imagine what monumental events you would have to put in the storyline in order to make Catherine stop being a female supremacist or Edmund stop being a racist and it still being plausible.
(On the note of Edmund, I would perhaps point out that using him as a statement against racism doesn't really work when all the ambassadors of the different races are so utterly stereotyped as to confirm every prejudice.)
---
To be clear, I wouldn't object to the characters being unpleasant bastards if they were only unpleasant bastards in a way that would make me still enjoy being around them. Sort of like how you can enjoy a good villain in a movie. These, however, aren't. I just want to kick them straight off of my airship.

Comparative to me, you must be very quick to hate.
But I will wait until I do my own interaction with them to pass a more final judgement... if that is even necessary (for myself).
Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

Your comments are uncalled for and an insult to yourself. You logged on to make one forum post only to make judgmental conjectures based on some deranged outlook of yours on how people should be. The people you are referring to are characters in a story, they have been used in such ways as to progress said story and so long as it is to artistic ends then the story makers are not at fault.
In short, calling most of the ambassadors assholes and the rest of the characters dumbasses really only reflects both statements upon your person. If you had any sense you would apologies to this community for your rudeness.

I, for one, absolutely adore all of the characters on the ship already, and I haven't even played. I love how they talk, how each one is different, and their flaws. They aren't unlikeable. They're darling in personality and are delightfully animated. I think Prospera is rather beautiful too. And though I'm no fundamentalist, I feel Yorrick is going to be one of the ambassadors I fancy the most.
As for Lusket, I agree with Fernando. Your only post is to complain. =/

All unlikable? Welcome to politics. It's realistic lol.
If you want to be the good guy, play by whatever seems morally right to you, and call them out when they do something you don't like. Winning their affections might get you some unlocks or something, but how much does it take for you to sell out your morals?
I think it's a fine representation of politics.

I think it's a fine representation of politics. Haha, I tend to agree, but didn't Swen allude that if you play only to your heart and tick off some factions severely that the game will be significantly harder than someone that balances things to keep everyone happy? I can't find the article that made me think that so I might just be imagining it but I thought there was talk that it was possible to get into a no-win position by screwing up your politics too much. I personally like it that way better as forcing players to vote against their morality for the sake of politics is a really interesting prospect.

There is a story arc for each race, with bonuses provided at certain points along the way, but you can not please everyone. If you want to get to the end of a particular race's arc, you will be pretty much guaranteed to have at least one other race with an equally low opinion of you.

Hmmm, so I guess I imagined it after all. So the game is balanced around picking a side and sticking with it?
