If you haven't played the Bladur's Gate series I highly suggest that. As well as Diablo if like hack and slash style games. Go this thread too for more info. RPG recommendations

First, there is no game out there like DD. It is a beautifully unique game unlike any other I have played.

However, if you want NPC's to join you in your quests then Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 are and excellent choice in an epic adventure.

Note: BG1 is not compatible with WinXP or 2000.

- Fallout 1
- Fallout 2
- Arcanum
- Morrowind
- Ultima (every)
- Gothic
- Gothic 2
- Arx Fatalis
- Baldur's Gate 2
- Baldur's Gate 1
- Planescape: Torment
- Icewind Dale 1
- Icewind Dale 2
- Wizardry 8

Every of the game mentioned above have something alike with DD.

Answer to the topic's question:
There's Fallout, Fallout 2, Arcanum.

Hmmm. I bought Baldur's Gate 1 just the other day and it's running on XP fine. It was the version with the Sword Coast expansion built in. Perhaps it's an older version you're running?

And on topic: For the combat style and character development, I recommend Diablo 1 and 2. If you like the character interaction with speech options and detailed quests and story (and a party of characters), I say Baldur's Gate 1 & 2. No other games I've seen come close to Divinity.
