I really don't like the idea of it coming out in december. for the simple reason that since the steam winter sale will be going on and that might (and probably will) affect the sales greatly... if the game is released during the sales I doubt that many people will buy a 40 euro game instead of 5 games for that price at 80% off or something.

I really hope that its not December because of the winter sales on Steam. That could be disasterous to the game's release because people will be concentrating more on getting games cheaper. It would be better left for January/February time personally.

I believe most of the expenses for DOS were covered by Kicsktater and money spent on DC will be covered by sales. So even if release in December (which I doubt, I think it will be February next year) - not much will be lost.

That was a remark from someone else on the Fan day too. Not because of the Steam sales itself, but because December is busy month for gaming in general: all major publishers want their triple AAA title out before Christmas plus we are also getting new consoles this holiday season.

But they (Larian) doesn't really care about that: DOS is a hard-core RPG PC-game, thus it's only for a niche market anyway. This won't be a blockbuster title regardless in what timeframe it comes out. So the release will be as soon as it's done and it won't be pushed backwards to 2014 because of marketing issues.

I just want D:OS to be EPIC. I could not care less about the release date, as long as the game is "done" at release (even if it would mean end 2014).

but no matter how niche the game is it still needs to be able to pay back the development cost. that's what I'm kind of afraid of.

Sad to hear about the toolkit not getting released during late alpha or even beta, coz I'd love to have meddled with it, but I do understand, as they do have their plates full as it is.

As for a good release date and an avid Steam user, I have to strongly agree on not releasing it in December. Late February or something would be much better. Whatever you can say about Kingdoms of Amalur, their sales were massive at that point in time.

I don't see how a differed release date can make this much a change.

If it's released in December and you don't want (or cannot) buy it, what prevent you to buy it later if you want it ?

Althor that is a marketing problem, of course the fans will buy it (if they have not already bought it on kickstarter) the thing is, if they want to aim new players and if they release it during the steam sold period, the average of bargains, thos new player will prefer buy 3 games for the same price^^

Sales times would hit Larian hard in that instance. If the game is going to be £29.50 like Dragon Commander I could get multiple games in the Christmas sale. I've seen some decent games in the summer sale for £5, which means I could get 6 of those games for the same price as I could get Original Sin (this isn't me complaining, but me being cautious. I already have my D:OS thanks to Kickstarter, and if I can get a physical copy later I will be getting it too). What I don't want people to think (if the game comes out before the winter sales begin) is that 'I'll wait 2 weeks and get this game half price'.

It's not because of wintersales the price of D:OS would be lowered aswell.

I sure do hope so.
I've been watching and listening to the update song on youtube with my hand gently placed on my monitor screen, caressing it with a tear in my eye saying: "Soon. I'll hear from you again soon."

There's no need for hope; I'm pretty sure there will be an update by friday.
