On the strategic map, you have a stack of 4 troopers,
let's say. Now you want to send half of them east,
and half west. No combination of ctrl, alt or shift
let me split them, in-game tutorials don't touch the
subject and the wiki is so bare bones that it doesn't
either. So, can someone let me in on the secret to
choosing how many troops you want to move in a stack?

If you drag a group of units into another territory, or onto a transport, there should be a window pop up allowing you to specify how many units to transfer.
AFAIK there is no way to split them up first, and then move them.

If you try to move a stack out of country, the split window pops up automatically.
