I do not reccomend to use this guardian.
It is useful in a couple of places but if you let him kill, you get no XP for that unless you strike the killing blow.

You lighted the candle and nothing happened? Strange, I just tried it again: save in 1.033 version, saved to 1.34 and clicked= summoning cutscene came. I didn't even bother to read the book first.

When did you update? Right from the start? If not: Have you got any black map problems?

No need to apologize, I apparently did it right but I also have a lot of problems with an unstable computer. I still have win 98 & it is more unstable every day. If I upgrade to XP do you think it would help?

Zandalor, I played the game in Win 98SE on my old PC (Athlon 800) and on my new one in WinXP = had in both cases no differences. But both PC's are stable.

Hm, small objects are a bit tricky, you can move your cursor as you will over it (a bit below the candle) and the "candle-description" does not show up?

do you have a copy of a save before the black map......?
if so save it to a different folder..
..uninstall...reinstall and try again...
or have you done that already

Sent you via PM the Black map thread - you've got world files missing probably. How did you update, Zandalor? Installed CD and updated at once? No background programs running during this procedure? (Internet, Antivir, icq etc.)

Did you have any install error messages?

I did not reinstall untill after I played the new game for a while & found it didn't make any difference, but I did'nt uninstall first just reinstalled over old. No I turned off background programs before I did anything with the game. I did have errers so I reinstalled again weth no errors.

Zandalor, I'm not sure if I understood you correctly... If you enter an area for the first time, the map is black = fog of war, that's ok. The black map problem is when you reenter an already explored area, after loading a Savegame, and find out, it's covered (black again).
Sorry, if I sound stupid - but I just want to make sure

I uninstall the whole and back up my saves in a seperate folder somewhere else before I do this - (only saves that are working properly, not corrupt ones, of course )
I restart my PC, defragment the partition
install the game with no background programs running + install the patch
then I start playing, make a save.
Copy my backed up save into the savegame folder and continue.

[color:"yellow"]Troubleshooting Techniques by Raze

Tried this, Zandalor? Try deleting all of the files IN the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder. - not deleting the folder itself.

This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.

After this, try starting a new game and see if the problem persists. If not, try your latest save. If the new game works, but the latest save does not, there may be a problem in the saved game folder itself. If neither work, it may be a problem with Divinity, in which case re-installing might help. A new game might not be feasible it the problem occurs later in the game, but you can try any older saves you may still have.

[color:"yellow"]To re-install the game (CD + patch 1.34) by Raze

Zip or otherwise backup your saved games folder to another location first, just in case. Then un-install, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game, perhaps start the game and see if the problem persists (usually not necessary, but would help identify problems cause by the patch), re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, install the patch, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, start the game. This procedure is a bit over-cautious, but the best way to avoid install problems.

If the game will not install, or there are CRC errors during the install, try a different drive (if available). Some drives have more trouble with some disks than others. The SafeDisc copy protection added by CDV (the publisher) can also conflict with some drives. Check the CD for any physical damage; even a finger print or dust might interfere with reading it properly.
