Ok, I e-mailed Larian Support about the crash when trying to play an RTS battle in a single-player custom campaign on the Planet Earth map. After the weekend passed, I got the following from Larian on August 13th:

"This issues should be fixed in version 1.0.33, which is currently live on steam (just now) and should be live on GoG.com shortly.
We will provide them with the patch today and they will place it online as soon as possible."

As we all know, the game is patched on Steam and there's a patch on LarianVault for everyone who's got access there, but the GOG.com patch is still missing in action.

I sent a question about it to GOG.com's support last night and got this response in the morning (no, this isn't a dig on Larian for response time to support requests. I sent a ticket to GOG.com about patching the same day I sent the crash report to Larian and I still haven't gotten a response to that particular ticket):

"We are still waiting for the final version of the patch."

So, Larian, I ask you: what's really going on here? Did something go wrong delivering the patch to GOG.com? Are they just slow because they were putting their focus into setting up http://www.gog.com/indie? Is there some sort of miscommunication between the two companies, where GOG.com hasn't published anything because they think this patch might need to be rolled back and fixed later?
