Heya all,

Nice forum you have here wave

My question is as follows:

From what i gathered there are few options to buy the game via steam, retail (which is box steam), larian and gog.

When i visited larian website i noticed this:

- Comes as a DRM free download and with a Steam key.

Does it mean, that when i buy game from Larian do i still need to activate game on steam to install or do i download the install package with the option to add it to my steam library.

My goal is to avoid steam whenever i can, do not get me wrong, the steam idea is cool, but i do not like the idea, that i have to use 3rd party software instead of simple installer to install the program.

That is why, this is my first priority.

If i buy the game on gog, can i avoid steam totally, aka download it, install it and played it, with the need to run 3rd party program.

Thanks all for any info you can give.

Have a nice day,
Cheers,
Sew

The digital version from the Larian Vault gives a DRM free download (full install package), as well as a separate / optional Steam code, which you can redeem if you are so inclined (ie if you wanted to use the Steamworks multi-player lobby).
FWIW, the Steam version only requires the client to install and patch the game, or to use the Steamworks lobby (if the Steam client isn't running when you start the game, you will just have LAN / direct IP as options for multi-player, same as the DRM free versions).

As Regnox said, the retail version also comes with a GOG key, though if you are trying to avoid Steam, the physical manual would pretty much be the only reason to go retail rather than buy directly from GOG.

The GOG version is DRM free only; you don't have the option of using Steam even if you wanted it.

Thanks for detail information.

I will go and buy the retail version then.

I LOVE my boxes, have few sheilves reserved for them only.
