Larian Studios Forums General Chat Thinking of visiting Belgium in later this year

One of my friends is a fan of Belgian beer and suggested that we have a long weekend there for a beer trip (or p**s up as us British put it) and was looking for any suggestions. There will be four or five of us going.

We have narrowed down the city to visit to be either Antwerp or Ghent depending on if we get the ferry or the train. I suggested Ghent as that is the cheapest and easiest to get to by train from where I live in the UK. The others want to go to Antwerp because they have stopped there before on the way to the Ocktoberfest last year.

Any suggestions for good bars / beers and places to stay preferably withing walking distance of Sint-Pieters station?

BTW Duvel, Hoegaarden, Leffe and Vedett are commonly available in the UK in most bars and clubs so we have tried them. Duvel - nice beer but can't have too many of them. My friend has developed a taste for it but after eight bottles he's too drunk to walk. Maybe suggest something that isn't quite as strong...

ermm..duvel is like..totally not strong ..I'm finding it hard to offer good beers that are less strong, because then you'll be drinking pils .. tripel karmeliet? very good but maybe bit stronger

if you really want good beer you should go Halle, or a "Streekproductencentrum" in the Zenne valley ..here are spontaneusly fermented beers, lambieks (less strong than duvel, 15mins by train from BXL-Midi), the base of geuze and almost every decent fruit beer.. only possible here because of air bactery soil blabla composition..

Thanks for the info, the trip was cancelled anyway due to various reasons but it does not mean we won't be visiting sometime in the future.
